Just wonderful
You can't get a more complete copy of the fab 4 during the Hamburg days with Tony Sheridan. These recordings were done right, they sound as good as any analog recording you'll ever hear and as a bonus you get a high quality hard cover book full of rare pictures and facts.I started to just buy the CD's but when I saw the book I was glad I didn't.

I would give this a six if I could
I had written about "Beatles' First [DELUXE EDITION] [LIMITED EDITION]" . At that time I had made a statement about it couldn't get any better. I was wrong Beatles Bop - Hamburg Days Special Edition is way superior. Bear Family Records did a superb job with this release. A tad bit expensive but well worth it if you can swing the dough. I believe they got their hands on every recording and version stereo and mono during this period that the Beatles recorded. Then to top things off a beautiful Hard Cover Book that does a fantastic job explaining The Beatles of that era, every one associated with them including, dates, people by name, where, the songs, the versions, when recorded, when released, the contracts, just about anything you would care to know. They pulled information from interviews, magazines, newspapers, and books. It appears that a lot of effort went into putting this together. The pictures are stunning and there are a lot. All this to me makes Beatles Bop - the Hamburg Days worth the money. Bear Family Records certainly has set the mark for box sets and putting the puzzle together for this period of The Beatles. That said, Who can take the lead and pick up from were this ends and go a couple of more years? There is just as much confusion in this period that could be cleared up. Also it would be nice if they did something like this for the Star-Club tapes.

Excellent set
This is a must-have for any true Beatles fan. The tracks were recorded just outside Hamburg in 1961 & 1962 with Pete Best on drums. The sound quality is excellent, couldn't be better and the booklet is top-notch. The Bear family is known for producing only the best music sets and this one is an example of that. I only wish that when The Beatles' entire catalog is remastered/remixed, the task would be handed to Bear.

Horrible Packaging From The Manufacturer
The content of this box set is very good, but he packaging is terrible. The first order I received, there were tears in the outside of the box, right through the Beatles name. So I returned it. I ordered it again. I received the second copy and it is worst than the first. Again, there is a tear on the outside of the box, through the Beatles name, and the entire packaging is bubbled all through the outside of the box. There is obviously no quality control. I would love to have an acceptable copy of this set. It is very neat for any Beatles Collector. It includes an 120 page hard cover book, plus the entire sessions on CD. A great set. I haven't decided if I am going to return it again or just keep what I have.Amazon please check in to this and correct the problem !!

Detailed look at some formative work
"Beatles Bop" is a lavish box set reissue of a fairly small number of recordings that have been released before, namely the 1961-62 recordings of the Beatles (with Pete Best, not yet Ringo) in recording studios in Germany as a backup band for Liverpool singer Tony Sheridan. The Beatles themselves had nothing to do with this reissue, but Beatlemaniacs will be impressed with the thoroughness with which this collection was made. Its expensive price tag is due to its inclusion of a lavish, color, hardcover book detailing all that is known about each recording. The recordings themselves are contained on 2 CDs, and it should be noted that there are really only about 10 songs here, but that this set excels in tracking down every available mix of each one that was ever released (the original tapes no longer exist), both in mono and stereo. Beatles fans may be disappointed that Sheridan (impersonating Elvis pretty well) sang most of the lead vocals on these recordings, although John Lennon does get to sing a version of "Ain't She Sweet," and the Beatles did get to record their own catchy instrumental composition, "Cry for a Shadow." Other songs include "When the Saints Go Marching In" and the famous "My Bonnie" which brought the band to Brian Epstein's attention. It is interesting to hear the Beatles playing their recogniseable sound here, with the energy and versatility that would amaze the world in a few short years. This is also a rare chance to assess the drumming of Pete Best. Casual fans will think this box set, with its multiple versions of the same songs, and its painstaking documentation of each one, to be too much ado about too little. But scholars and rabid fans interested in the early years of the group will definitely want to add this to their collection. And yes, the sound quality is very good.

The Beatles with Tony Sheridan / In the beginning (1962)
Don't let the title of this record buffle you. The music here is not bop, it's rock'n'roll, it's very diverse and it features 6 or 7 splendid numbers. Acording to a song list we are presented here with the all too numerous songs that Beatles recorded with Tony Sheridan on vocals. The band had their first drummer Pete Best on drums here, and their gig sounded retro back then in 1962 when it was recorded in some unknown studio, as it sounded in 1978 when it was released on LP. I remember that record from 1978, it was Tony Sheridan's record, The Beatles were one of the two backing bands then, you could compare their outstanding backing vocals to that other band's called the Beat Brothers and their saxophones, and it was a classic. In Beatles' opus this record is something special, since it features many songs writen a decade earlier than most of the songs we know Beatles for. Let me just mention a few:When the saints go marchin' inWhyMy Bonnie lies over the oceanGeorgia BrownNobody's childAlong with Ain't she sweet (for Beatles historians in 1978 it was the earliest song featuring Lennon's vocals recorded) and Cry for a shadow (instrumental) there actualy ain't much more of the songs on this album from 1978. So, the Beatles Bop offers more. In a way.

Excelente Box set

A Great "OLD" Beatle CD
This being one of their first recordings, is great for the "real" Beatle fan! Don't expect to hear the Beatles as they sounded when they wrote their own songs, this is early music and DIFFERENT than their others but still great if you like the Beatles and their songs! It's well worth the price and besides, you are listening to a bit of Beatle history with the songs being played so early in their careers!
