I was trying to save money by buying this as opposed to a professional harness/sling/gaffs, but sometimes you need to spend the extra money. This didn't work for me for a few reasons:1. My tree is wide, around 30" diameter. Since the sling is permanently attached on one side the amount of slack you can add is limited. If your tree is smaller diameter this probably wouldn't be a problem.2. The gaffs are better suited for utility poles or trees that have thin bark. I was trying to climb a German walnut tree, which has very thick bark, and the spikes simply weren't long enough to reach the actual wood causing me to slide down the tree. Fortunately I hadn't made it far up and wasn't injured. Evoke sells separate "tree climbing" spikes even though this setup is described as "for tree climbing".3. None of the pad/strap components on the gaffs were actual leather. Everything was some sort of synthetic or composite material and I had serious concerns about how long it would last since everything needs to be very tight for safety. I observed small stretch cracks forming on the gaff straps the first use, so I doubt these could be used very many times before failure and seriously don't these would hold up to daily use for long.Bottom line: I returned these and will go with a proper harness, proper gaffs along with a life line. Without instructions it is difficult to decide if anything is missing from the kit. For the price we should expect some guide for the assembly.

They work just as well as any of the name brand spikes. I am very satisfied with this set

I am a homeowner, never climbed a tree with spikes. These are a great affordable choice to give it a try. Sharp spikes right out of the box, practiced multiple times just going up and down a little. Then with proper safety equipment lanyards, back ups, and extra climbing line, went 70' felt safe and secure the whole time. I have chicken legs and the shank part that straps to your calf was hurting after about an hour or so in a tree, I got some soft knee pads from home depot and strap them to my legs before I put on the spikes. This helped a ton!
