Great illustration of French-Canadian identity prior to the Quiet Revolution
Roch Carrier's classic tale of growing up in rural Quebec is full of charm and whimsy. Shows the major factors of language, Church and hockey in shaping Quebecois identity.

VERY cute if you remember who Rocket was
If you remember hockey back when it was a Canadian sport, you'll like this kids tale of French Canada, back when Rocket Richard was THE idol, especially if you understand the great chasm between being a Leafs fan and being a Canadiens fan :-)

Parental Review Required For This Great Story
Beware: this is not a fairy tail/happy ending book and should not be given directly to a child. Hockey loving parents/coaches should be familiar with this story before reading it to their sons/daughters/players.

Amazing little child's book
I wanted to see why people gave this cute little book a 1 star rating and from reading those reviews they clearly don't follow sports or they're far too liberal. This book is in no way anti English Canadian, the kid is anti maple leaf because he lives in Quebec and everyone likes the Canadians its a sport rivalry that's it. People also state the book has no morals but it clearly shows team dedication and unity. The book shows a very simple story through the eyes of a little French Canadian boy growing up in a town where hockey was life. I recommend every hockey fan owns this book, its a great read to your kids by the Christmas tree.

Great Hockey Hero
I was giving this book as a memento to my older brother . The "ROCKET RICHARD" was his boyhood hero from the time he was 6 and he had his first hockey jersey at that time. I was hoping that the book would hold special memories for him as he celebrates his 80th Birthday tomorrow! I will speak to him in Florida then and I'm sure he will comment further. He did make comments on Facebook when he recived the book!!

The hockey spirit in Montreal
Great book for a child who is starting to be a hockey fan. It enables a grandfather to tell the child about the rivalry between Montreal and Toronto and talk about Maurice Rocket Richard. IT is a book the child will enjoy many times

Fantastic! As I knew it would be
Fantastic! As I knew it would be, having read it many times many years ago in my working environment . Very well illustrates the old rural Quebec life, concentrating on hockey's #9. The focal point of the small village is the church, the priest is the referee, as well as all other important personages of the past. Wonderfully illustrated mirror of the past.

Terrible story
Terribly condensed version of the original story. No young child gains anything from this confusing plot, I will not read it to her, Iโll wait till sheโs older for the real version
