Very good history of a great plane!
A worthy addition to the authors books on other early American jets....the F-84, F-89 and F-94. The T-33 was the standard training jet for the west throughout the 50s and early 60s. In fact, it was developed from the first successful American jet fighter. Lockheed made thousands and they saw use everywhere from Europe to Asia...the list is nearly endless. The fact that it was developed from the P-80 and the "T-Bird" is still in use over 55 years later tells you Lockheed got it right the first time. The book does an excellent job of going into the development, history and service of the plane. There are also good chapeters on foreign use and the civilian warbirds that fly today. A few more shots of the hundreds of static examples would have been fun though.

Excellent book!
This is a great resource for anyone who builds models. Dozens of paint schemes, squadrons and close up photos. A must have if you are building a T-33 or F-80.

A fun book
the t-bird was the first operational jet trainer, developed from the F-80 Shooting Star. there are many black and white photos in this book and several in color. Some of the quality is not there, but you have to understand the color film, the process and the cameras that were available at that time. The kicker for me was the back of the book that has a listing of all surviving T-33s, with some photos included too. All and all a nice book on this aircraft.

One of the few T-Bird books
Alas, when it comes to training aircraft, they are regarded as 'less glamorous' than fighters and bombers, so consequently publishers tend to shy clear of publishing books on them. This is a great shame, as if it wasn't for the trainer aircraft, there would be no pilots to fly the fighters and bombers! The T-33 is one of the most famous trainer aircraft of all time, being developed from a need for a trainer version of the Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star of Korean War fame. After the Korean War, the US supplied many friendly countries with T-33s under the Military Air Programme, in order to establish the Air Forces. This book does what it says - a Photo Chronicle- and includes photos of examples from nearly all the operators, as well as an extremely comprehensive coverage of USAF units. It also includes the TV-1 & '2 SeaStar developments for the Navy. With a pretty compregensive history of the type, all printed on top quality glossy art paper, this book goes a long way to filling the gap on this very reliable and much loved trainer aircraft known as the T-Bird or Silver Star in Canadian service. Schiffer should be congratulated on another fine production for the aviation buff's shelf.
