A great solution! Love my Zigo!
I came by my Zigo X1 second hand, and probably would have passed up on the idea if I had to pay full price for new, unless I had a chance to try it first. I got into the market for a reverse trike as I suffer from dizziness from unknown causes making emergency maneuvers on a two wheeler problematic. My favorite part is that I can talk with my daughter while we ride with her in full view, not craning my neck behind me (another medical limitation I have). The turning radius is manageable on the X1, I can make most corners on residential sidewalks without straying onto any neighbor's grass. While another child will prompt me to find an X2 pod, I wonder if the further limited turning radius due to the wider pod, might be, um, limiting. I found the akerman steering feature to be a problem as the outside wheel in a turn kicks in at a faster rate. This limits the turning radius as it runs against the pod and puts a lot of strain on that outside tire. I set my alignment up with a slight tow out to improve the overall feel in a turn. Keep the pod tires narrow to keep the turning radius tight.Joining the bike and the pod are easy and painless after doing it a few times. The first few attempts usually identified any snags, leading to a quick learning curve. The design is rather clever. I'm 215 lbs and it carries my weight well, with a rather upright riding position. The handlebars have a beach cruiser shape but much narrower. My wrists could be more comfortable, but it's working out. I couldn't improve on it with local bike shop options, so left it alone. My Zigo came with optional front screen and plastic covers which are highly recommended to get. We toured the neighborhood looking at Christmas lights on our first ride. That wouldn't have worked without the front plastic to break the wind in northern Ohio. All I'll say is get them.Since the X1 pod doesn't have a lot of room for cargo with my daughter in the pod (loads of room for groceries if she stays home), I added a rear rack and a trunk with fold out panniers. I can pack a few bags of groceries this way. My size 11 feet just clear the panniers. I added a computer to track my miles. Wireless options limit mounting as many have limited range and won't reach the handlebars from the rear tire sensor. You have to mount the sensor in the back as there is no practical mount on the pod wheels, and the front tires can change as you swap the pod for a front tire. Consider a wired computer setup with a long enough wire to reach up front if you buy a cycle computer.I also added a suspension seat post to keep the sidewalk cracks from jarring my back too badly, yet another problem I cope with. This solution is working well for me. Finally, I found an inexpensive, bright, helmet mount light and zip tied it to the pod push handle, which sits forward like a roll bar when hooked up to the bike. It lights the way nicely at night. It is a heavier setup than most will be used to, it is two vehicles after all. I had a similar adjustment getting used to pulling a trailer, which I don't like nearly as much as the Zigo arrangement. Since my medical challenges started a few years ago, I haven't been able to exercise that much. I'm getting around just fine.Bottom line, I love my Zigo, my daughter loves it, I'm glad I found it. I customized it with the items mentioned to make the most of the setup. I can tell people are noticing the bike, it turns heads and garners compliments. Personally I would not bother with anything less than7 speeds unless you only plan on doing rail-trails. And get the front screen and plastic if you get a Zigo. I hope this helps with your decision. I'm happy with mine.
