The Original Adventures of Hank the Cowdog

Fun to read with my 6year old.

Hank the cowdog has an important job on the ranch, he is in charge of ranch security. This little book is written in the person of Hank, the cowdog. This is a funny book for adults and kids. My son-in-law enjoyed reading these books to his third grade class. He would put on his cowboy hat and boots and really put on a show and the kids enjoyed the adventures of Hank, the cowdog.

I love hank the cowdog. My brother read these books growing up, so I got a few to teas to my boys!

My son isn't a big fan of reading. But with this book, he had no problem picking it up and getting interested. He enjoyed it so much we bought the next book in the series.

I am a 9 year old girl who reads Hank the Cowdog. I read 6th grade books and I love the books. They teach you about real life. They are funny and adventurous. I am on book 19 right now. I understand the words they say like "Idiotic" or "stupid", they are not said to hurt people. If Slim said "Idiotic Bull!" he means the bull is being Idiotic for attacking. I think Hank the Cowdog are really good books, and more people should read them.

Hank has style and character and presence. He's old west, cattle and ranching. He's as comfy as an old shoe. He's all the western values and virtues you'd want from Marshal Dillon, but he's fun and just a little bit clueless. The jokes are a little corny, but the adventures are good for honest laughs and excitement. Maybe everything old is new again, because this is so irony free and so old fashioned and dusty, that it feels fresh and different. If your little reader likes dogs, westerns, goofy adventure, buddy stories or simple but earnest laughs, this could be a good choice.

Being a former 3rd grade teacher, my wife used to read Hank to her students. She still has her collection and often talks about her student's reactions to the books. Now our granddaughter wants to start reading Hank. I bought this book for my wife as a pleasant memory...

Loved as a kid, excited to read them to my 8 year old daughter. She HATES reading but oh boy she had me read her the entire first book in two sittings! We received the third book in the mail before the second, and in her eagerness she wanted me to go ahead and read them out of order, and in one sitting we are halfway through it. The bad reviews about this book are.... Misleading. Yes, he is full of himself and yes he sees other creatures as beneath him and bullys Drover (think alpha dog-pack hierarchy)--- but that stuff only matters if you don't already know it to be wrong in your personal life, so I guess if you use fictional novels as your only method of parenting it might be an issue lol. I find myself quite bored to have only PERFECT moraled characters as the headline to a story, especially when characters without flaw are impossible for anyone to truly relate to. If you don't have a sense of humor, you would not enjoy these books. As for me and my family, we absolutely love them.

If you understand rural life and the working world, you and your kids will probably love this book about Hank, the boastful, well-meaning, but often blundering "head of ranch security". On the other hand, some modern urbanites may have a hard time recognizing the humour.

A lovely story for animal lovers of all ages.

We LOVE these books !! It’s not often I can find a book that I think is appropriate to read to my grandson (8). These stories are funny and hold his interest when we read them. He will actually giggle out loud at some parts which is very unusual for him when we are reading bedtime stories. We have listened (multiple times) to the Hank podcasts and enjoy them as well but reading these stories out loud really bro fat hen to life amd uses the imagination. We just went to the official Hank website and bought a large set which I know we will enjoy.

As expected. Great little book for children. One of my kids favorites.
