Evocative and Elegiac
A series of short meditations on Paris and very poetic. If it is possible to transmit the mood of a city then this book does it. It is evocative and elegiac taking the mundane and the uplifting and in a few words opening them up. The English text is set along side the French. A pleasure to read

I read a review of this book and felt I would like to read it. I have read it and it is a fascinating account of Paris in the 30's and 40's and what makes it a more interesting book is having the original in French in addition to the English translation. Anyone who has an appreciation of Paris would enjoy having this on the bookshelf.
