Product description Frankincense oil, sometimes called Olibanum, is extracted from the resin of the tree, collected by making small cuts to allow the sap to flow. In recent years some frankincense has been over harvested and controls have now been put in place to protect the trees and secure a sustainable supply. Using different genotypes will help with this and our oils are carefully chosen not only for their quality, but also for their sustainability. We stock both Bowellia Thurifera and Boswellia Carterii. Thurifera is very economical and best used for perfumery or fragrance applications. By contrast, Carterii contains boswellic acids and is therefore the better choice for therapeutic applications. Botanical Family: Burseraceae Commonly associated with: Frankincense has been used for centuries in its resin form, traditionally to drive out bad spirits. The essential oil has a sweeter, cleaner smell than the resin, with a mild initial aroma that is often more appealing for use in the home. Used as an inhalation, frankincense oil encourages deep, clear breathing. Emotionally, it is relaxing on a deep level, bringing calm, inner peace and stilling the mind. It is used in meditation and prayer in many cultures and religions to inspire the mystical and encourage the divine mind state. Frankincense is relaxing and grounding without being sedating. In skincare, frankincense is valued for rejuvenating, toning and improving the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles. It is particularly useful for dry, sensitive and mature skin types.
