Saint Etienne Presents Songs For The Lyons Cornerhouse

Buy this if you like old style singers (crooners) it has some lush instrumental tracks and a few other different old style tracks but its mainly crooners.

Following on from marios cafe and dog and duck comps,we come to this.These first two also sit along side st etienne's The trip.This though is a whole different kettle of fish.There is no northern soul,ska.folk or 60s pop just lots of obscure 50s music. Its going to take a few listens. As the sleeve notes say somewhere between swing and pre beatles rock and roll.A totaly new direction for songs from....file along with the bettie page soundtrackor even british light classics or even some ultra lounge.

cd was received in time specified which is much appreciated - it will be played during our planned Lyon's tea party which we are having shortly!

Purchased as a Christmas present so no idea what it is like but I do know it was exactly what the recipient wanted and it was easy to find on Amazon.

This recording grew on me. It really is very good and unusual.

Bought on a whim based on my trust of St Etienne's curated mixes. This has been a hit played at many a dinner party.

This is a mixed bag by anyone's choice but enough to interest the casual buyer or those building up a 1950s collection as much of the music dates from that era. The vocals go nicely with the instrumentals. Listen out for Ron Goodwin; Mantovani; Frank Chacksfield & Cyril Stapleton with their mellow tones. Classic 50s vocals come from 2 of Ted Heath' best not to forget Jo Stafford still in her prime and Rosemary Clooney from the charts. Winifred Atwell took the variety circuits by storm with her unique and very popular keyboard skills. more please from Cherry Red...Price wise good value and attractively packaged too.
