Don't believe the hype-Anchovies ROCK and are delicious plus healthy
We use anchovies on a regular basis. There was a grocery store that regularly carried them cheaply, but they no longer do so, causing us to check out Amazon. This Crown Prince anchovy brand is our favorite so far as they are always full of flavor. We use them chopped up in some things, like salads and also let them melt into sauces and whatnot.I originally thought I HATED anchovies. The truth was that I had never tried them and just bought into the negative propaganda. When my SO got anchovies on part of the pizza, I thought he was insane. I was wrong, anchovies can actually save a mediocre pizza. But the usefulness of anchovies goes way beyond pizza. I feel kinda dumb that I didn't eat something for years based on other people's tastes, especially since I'm generally willing and eager to try new foods. Anchovies need a positive PR campaign stat. Puttanesca sauce is my absolute favorite thing that uses anchovies and next best is this Cajun Caesar salad my SO makes.Anchovies are actually pretty good for you since they're high in calcium, potassium and good fatty acids. Eating them can help with cholesterol levels by reducing the bad stuff that can clog your arteries. They can also help make your bones stronger. They're good for dieters (if you can eat fish) because they're high in protein, which makes you feel full. Plus they're low in calories.Using Subscribe and Save for this has been a good option for us because we don't have to either go hunting for them or try to remember if we've already got a can at home. Having a bunch around has also caused us to up our intake some, which I'm sure my cholesterol levels will no doubt appreciate. The price is reasonable and the quality is good.

Bad product
This is the third time I’ve bought these. I’ve always been happy until now.The expiration date is the end of 2024 yet the cans are swollen and the filets smell rancid.I had to toss out the night’s dinner for fear of becoming ill.The box the cans came in had two mailing addresses on it, all before getting boxed for my order. If you purchase this be aware of the cans. They are supposed to be vacuum packed not pressurized like mine shooting horrible smelling liquid over my kitchen. (This was the second can I opened for verification).

Cans full of mush when opened on Apr 18, 2024.
I just had to throw out 3 cans of Anchovies because they were bad when opened. I have another 9 can from the same box that I will have to throw out. I would like to receive Credit for this order, but doubt I'll get it now. They were puchased in Oct 23, and after reviewing customer's comments, it looks like I had the same issue as "Rick in Austin" from his order from Oct 2023. This is his comment:"Rick in Austin1.0 out of 5 stars Something has gone wrong with the quality of these anchoviesReviewed in the United States on December 31, 2023Flavor Name: RegularSize: 2 Ounce (Pack of 12)Verified PurchaseI have been buying Crown Prince Anchovies for years. 90% of the time, they are fine. I bought this box in October, 2023, and have opened 5 cans. They all have the same problem. The can looks like it's about half full. Since they are packaged in the box laying on their side, all the anchovies have shifted to the downhill side showing that the can is half full. But that's not he worst part. Anchovy filets are supposed to be just that, filets. They are supposed to be able to be taken from the can individually and eaten or laid on a salad or pizza. The consistency of these anchovies is best described as mush. If you are going to blend them to make Caesar salad dressing, they are fine. But if you are going to put them on a pizza, they are like using anchovy paste."I would like a credit on my account for these. I have the other 9 cans from the same order in case anyone wants to see/test them. They cannot be edible.

Crown Prince Flat Anchovies in Olive Oil
Two ounces of flat anchovy fillets in olive oil, and I always keep a few cans on-hand. The tin appears to be approximately two-thirds full of fish and the rest is oil. The fillets are separate and distinct, but as always, thin and somewhat fragile, so I used a fork to separate them for use on a pizza. The information on the nutritional label states there are approximately 15 fillets per can, which is almost exactly what was in the can I received. The flavor is excellent and the fillets are not mushy. There are two and a half servings per can. Calories are low, 40 calories per serving and for such a small quantity, four grams of protein is impressive, but of course sodium is crazy high at 970mg so they should be used in moderation. What is so wonderful about anchovies is that their flavor is so intense, even a small amount has an impact – like in salads or eggplant/tomato relishes, etc. My mother only made cheese or anchovy pizzas so I am accustomed to their use and this is a product I regularly buy. This brand is one I have purchased for many years and so far have not encountered any problem. The “best by” date on the can I received is 18 months in the future.

Defective tins of anchovies
The case of 12 arrived and there was no damage visible. Unpacked the 12 individual boxed tins and nothing seemed amiss so I put them in the pantry. About two weeks later went to use a tin and when I pulled the peel back lid oil sprayed out. Removed the lid all the way and what I found inside was not identifiable anchovies in oil but rather just a gross looking brown lump of mush floating in oil. Opened a second tin and found same thing. Opened a third tin and found same thing. Looked at some more of the tins and some were clearly bloated. Disgusting and obviously I did not eat any of this. Item deemed non-returnable so I had to talk to an actual person, will be getting a full refund, not returning the tins because they are defective. I had previously ordered this same 12 pack and they were all great.

Delicious!
They say that anchovies are an acquired taste, but to me they're an obsession that I was born with! What would a Caesar salad be without them? Unfortunately, anchovies have become so expensive that I will be forced to spread out these dozen little tins out a long time. Still, they are somewhat less from Amazon than at the local market, so I will be ordering them again.

Poor quality
I purchased a case and only 4 tins out 12 were edible, the other 8 tins were swelled up and when opened the smell was putrid.

Very tasty but not top quality
Arrived on time and very reasonable price. Quality of fillets were very boney but does the job in a salad. Flavor very good would certainly buy again.
