Raising NLD Superstars: What Families with Nonverbal Learning Disabilities Need to Know about Nurturing Confident, Competent Kids

A great help for us parents
I've had this book now for about a year, and have read it cover to cover, twice, and have taken a highlighter to it. My son was diagnosed with NLD at age five, and that was a few years back now. There has been scant reading material, but I have read whatever I could find. This was my hands down favorite. While each thing I read, book or article or website has added to my knowledge in different ways, this book gave me a little hope and humor to go along with the knowledge. The examples are great, the advice is usable, and the organization of the book is quite helpful for quick reference. The author gives doses of reality in a very supportive way, and she writes intelligently, yet not overly clinical. I highly recommend for anyone just needing some help wrapping their head around this disorder.

Raising NLD Superstars
A must-read if you have a child who doesn't seem quite normal. Nonverbal Learning Disorder (NLD) is still not understood by many health-care and educational individuals and which, if not addressed, can have a crippling effect on your child's development.Marcia Rubinstien helps you to understand this affliction and deal with it in the everyday world around you. If your child was an early talker but seemed to start stumbling as his or her education progressed, has difficulty with fine-motor skills, fidgits a lot, takes forever on homework, can't seem to hurry or get organized, you need to consider that the cause might be NLD. Mrs. Rubinstien explains NLD in lay terms with clarity and humor, and offers solutions for both child and family.

This was a great book!
When I discovered my son had NLD, and started reading some of the books out there on this topic, I became very alarmed, because the ones I read indicated that his condition was very serious, and that he might not be able to lead a completely independent life.Raising NLD Superstars reassured me that is is very possible to have a child who lives an independent and fulfilling adult life - this book relieved my anxiety! There are really good strategies here that help you as a parent cope and help your child. I highly recommend this book.

Plenty of sound advice on a rarely discussed Learning Disorder
Professionals like to refer to Susan Thompson's book on NLD, but this could be a more accessible source for families of the newly diagnosed individual. She includes troubleshooting tips for sensory issues at home and school, preparing to go on outings of any kind, and Brownstien does a fantastic job helping the reader recognize that empathy and unconditional love are two key items to help your nlder.

Very Helpful!
I've read several books on NLD since my 10 year old daughter was diagnosed last year. Although I have many more to go, this was by far the best so far. I put off reading it thinking that it might not apply to my single parent family, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Very easy to read and right on target about so many of the issues surrounding this disability. Lots of good information to share!

Enlightening!
This book is jam packed with information about NLD. It's a page turner for those of you who need this very important information about your NLD child. Marcia has delved into areas of this difficult disability with a vengence, and has come up with some wonderfully positive solutions. I learned so much about NLD, that I highly recommend it to anyone that needs to learn more about the problems and solutions for a child with this frustrating disability.

iNFORMATION WITH HUMOR
It's often difficult to find a serious topic written so well with a bit of humor added in. I not only found the authorto be very well versed in Non-verbal Learning Disabilities but she also shared with the reader an understanding of how a family member(s) with this diagnosis interacts on a daily basis. An amazing writer.I can only hope she writes more books.

Great book for any parent of child with NLD
My son diagnosed with dyslexia & NLD by Ed Phyc 3 years ago, we thought dyslexia was the main issue until he reached final year of primary, when he has had severe anxiety & started getting depressed. NLD isn't heard of by experts in the UK, we've struggled to get any information. This book is refreshing, written in a light hearted yet informative way. It's helped me & his class teacher understand him better. Recommend

Good book!
I found this book helpful with lots of humour. I don't think all the suggestions pertain to all NLD kids and all families....a few suggestions...about a mother driving all over town to find a certain shirt for her son. I totally understand that happening, but what if you are a working mother??? And can't get to a store and your son is texting you at work?? (yes, has happened to me...)And some of the suggestions on teaching a child how to eat properly....(my son is so sensitive, he would take it as criticism)....But all in all a good book, with helpful suggestions.
