OMG, THIS IS THE BEST THING ON MY DESK!!!! 100 STARS, if I could.
The media could not be loaded. I've included a video so you can see it in action. I am so in love with this thing. (my monitors behind it are black so it might be hard to see. And I think it was really hard for my phone to focus, but hopefully you will get the gist of it)This was shipped very well, arrived in great condition, and setup was super easy.It doesn't take long to heat up. It's smaller than my regular lava lamp, but I am actually glad because I have it between 2 of my monitors so it can catch my eye, and still not be too much in the way.The color of the light is very warm and orange. It's not overly bright, more like very soft mood lighting. The ferrofluid is black, of course, so when it's all down at the bottom, there is not very much light at all. But that's not why you would get it anyway, lol. It came with 5 magnets. 1 is a rather large disk that I think is mainly used to keep all the ferrofluid together during shipping. The other 4 magnets are rare earth magnets. They have a rainbow sheen to them, which I think is super groovy. The shapes are each a bit different, and they aren't overly strong, which is good. I don't think it would be good if they were. They are really perfect for what you use them for.So, it's a regular lava lamp, but then you can play with it like ferrofluid with the magnets.Make sure to follow the initial directions which are clear and easy to follow. It needs to be sort of calibrated when you first use it. Easy peasy. If it's cloudy when you first get it, it should clear up after several times being turned on. Mine was overly cloudy, but when I contacted the seller, he was super helpful and responsive and fixed the problem for me.If all the fluid goes up to the top and just stays there, the light is a bit too hot for it. The seller recommends a dimmer, which I don't have. When mine gets too hot (probably because my desk is warm from all the electronics), I just give it a break and turn it off to chill out.I love to just watch it. It's very meditative. Every time you turn it on, the flow pattern is unique. So it's so pleasant and wonderful to watch, and then play with. Which makes it better than a lava lamp, because they can't be played with.Don't leave it on unattended. This is my opinion. In other words, if no one is home, or you are going to bed, give it a rest. It's not something to leave on 24-7. The bulb is only a fraction as hot as the regular lava lamp. But in my correspondence with the seller, I got the impression that you'd only want to leave it on for a day and then give it a rest. This is honestly the best desk "toy" I have. I love love love it.

A really cool desk trinket.
I'm a bad news first kind of guy so let me start with things you might not like when you purchase this lamp;1) The fluid is not perfectly clear like in the videos. The contents for this lamp appear to be a black wax mixed with metallic dust for the "ferrofluid" and some kind of transparent fluid, perhaps an oil. Might be simple mineral oil, not sure. But the result of that wax and (likely iron filing) dust mixture is a mild "cloudiness" to the clear fluid. It's not bad and doesn't detract from the fun at all but it can be a little disappointing to get the product, let it settle for w few days hoping it will clear up, and discovering it never quite does all the way.2) The bulbs just can't seem to arrive intact unless they're shipped separately. As you can imagine when you send something delicate like a glass, incandescent bulb through the mail with magnets and a metal rocket ship shaped lamp the result tends to be a broken bulb. This happened to me twice. Please note this review gives five stars anyway. Why? Because the seller, Kyle, is aware of this and if it happens to you he will respond promptly, politely, and help anyway he can.All that said here's the important take away to consider when buying this product.IT'S A FREAKING LAVA LAMP YOU CAN INTERACTIVELY PLAY WITH! How awesome is THAT!? The lava lamp alone is mesmerizing, playing with it is a wonderful way to distract yourself for a bit, and the object over all is just a great addition to any professional setting. Not only that but this lamp operates at a much lower temperature than most lava lamps which makes it a lot safer than most lava lamps. Perfect for any kids old enough to know popping it open and trying to drink the contents is a stupid idea. I love it. I'd love it with different colors of wax, I've love it with clearer fluid, I'd love it in different colors, shapes, and designs for the base and cap. I'd love it on a boat, in a moat, with a goat. I love this lamp, Sam I am. I love it very much.

Not worth it
This $50 lava lamp worked for about 12 hours. My daughter was so pumped to get this, then less than a day later It stopped working. The black ferrofluid sunk to the bottom, we couldn’t get it to work properly. Also unlike the picture it was very yellow & cloudy not not clear. Definitely don’t waste your time this, you will just be turning around & sending it back.

The fluid is cloudy and no where close to as clear as in the advertised picture
I suspect the black ink separated from the ferrofluid and mixed into the clear liquid causing it to get cloudy. And you probably can’t see it in the picture but if you look very closely you can see thousands of tiny black dots and metallic specks suspended throughout the entire lamp. Also if I run the lamp more than a few hours it will overheat and all the ferrofluid would remain floating at the very top.So after a few days it started to clear up but it is still noticeably cloudy. For example, you can barely see the ferrofluid if it is on the opposite side of the glass you are viewing but if the ferrofluid is directly in front of the glass you can see it clearly. The only thing I like about this lamp the most is it heats up fast so the fluid will start flowing within minutes instead of hours. But by the time a regular lava lamp has warmed up, this ferrofluid lamp would have overheated already. Maybe I need to install a lower wattage bulb.Update after a few months: fluid is still very noticeable cloudy is no where close to clear. The cloudy dirty looking water just takes the beauty away by distracting you from seeing the ferrofluid properly. I contacted the people and they said something like it would clear up but it never did and they never replied to what I told them. The contact support people for the company is not good at all. Now it is too late to return. I bet they tell people to wait for it to clear up just to trick them and hoping them they would forget about it so it passes the return deadline. Their strategic plan seems to have worked for me. Now I am let with this lamp I rarely turn on because it bothers me how dirty it looks and how I can’t clearly see the ferrofluid flowing
