Update on 6/3/17: after posting my initial review of this product (see below) I need to comment that the customer service behind this company is stellar. Upon reading my review, the company sent me another umbrella free of charge and apologized for the defective umbrella. I received it very quickly and it feels sturdy. Since it hasn't been raining lately, I cant speak to how it functions but I'm very happy I get to try it. The design is beautiful and apparently when the umbrella gets wet, you can see a flower pattern .Wooden handle broke off seconds after I took it out of the box. I had to return it. Too bad, it was a beautiful design.

Almost just like my parasol/umbrella i had in japan...... Without a cover or auto open button with manual close. I got over that quickly enough. It works. It protects from the sun. It protects from the rain. It has not fallen apart. It seems well constructed. It also has the magic pattern when the umbrella gets rained on. It is a nice size for lovers or to cover myself and my small dog in the rain.

Just took the umbrella out of the box and noticed that it had a chunk of wood missing from the handle. No damage to the box it was shipped in therefore it must have been like that before it was shipped. The umbrella is a nice design but not acceptable like it is. Just got my refund label to send it back and I ordered another one. If there is a problem with that one, that will be it for me since I noticed that another buyer had a defective handle also.

I just received this umbrella so I've not had the opportunity to use it yet. It is a handsomely, beautiful umbrella. Very distinctive and unique in its simplicity. I don't even mind that it is not automatic open-close. :)

Would buy this again when available!
