A good start for beginners
Loved the book. I came from Java world and had least knowledge about Ruby and Rails per say. This book was an excellent tutorial to start with and get a hang how a rails app works.

A good one!
A must one for those who are planning to step up in Rails. You can also understand how TDD is done, by developing a small app

Not Impressed
A good book but just not for me. Not a reference book. Its like a get started tutorial. Makes use of the infamous scaffolding to build the sample app.

Great book - especially the 3rd section
I was originally reading through a variety of other Rails books, and then started reading the Ruby on Rails tutorial 2nd edition by Michael Hartl. I read the positive Amazon reviews for the tutorial book, and in particular how it focused on TDD and Rails (not just Rails), and so I started there. Unhappy with that book, I cycled back and bought and read this book. Personally, I really enjoyed this book, and will definitely be referring to parts of it again as a reference. The 3rd section of this book, in particular, is gold. It clearly discusses details of how Rails works, and in a concise manner. I love it!What are my complaints with the Tutorials book (2nd edition)? Well first the code snippets are full of typos (my publication date is: July 2012 first printing), and that upsets me; I expect code snippets to be correct. The typos are all of the form of punctuation and special characters being omitted from the printed version (the online version is fine). Second, the tutorials book advanced too slowly for my tastes; largely because it is introducing so many technologies at once - rails, ruby, git, tdd, rspec, guard, etc), I loved the way this book is focused on Rails, and includes alot of technical details described clearly.Don't skip out on this one - it is useful, especially when first learning the language.

Thanks to this book, I have now developed two websites easily with rails.
Before I read this book, I didn't know Ruby, and I have never really develop website. Thanks to this book, I have now developed two websites easily with rails. The book is in two parts, first present the rails framework, and second details each components.Explanation are very clear, examples do works.I recommend this book, as the Rails framework.

This is my go-to Rails book
I love everything about this book. I find myself going back to it over and over, even after I read it cover-to-cover. It includes almost everything you could possibly want to know about Rails 4 and Ruby. There's practical examples you can follow, and it takes you through the whole process of creating an application. It's very obvious that the authors know what they're doing, but they also know how to explain it very well.Very comprehensive once you get to the back, and includes a number of advanced features and topics once you're done, and where to go from there. This one's a keeper!
