Cruelty And Carnage: Superviolent Art by Yoshiiku & Others (Ukiyo-e Master Series)

Yoshitosi Taiso is one of ,y favorite artists. I do not usually like such graphic violence but his work is my favorite. His work, and the work of some others is shown in this book. The books is divided into Shunga (erotic violence), Shin bun Nishiki-e, bloody kabuki, and more. The selections are fine, but the quality if the images is not great. The printing is a bit fuzzy and images are packed in. Sometimes the designer chose to zoom in close to a print, sometimes you have 4 prints crammed onto a page (with no white or black lines to provide separation). I would like this book better off the printing quality were better, and the layout design better. The beauty of these prints is how much amazing detail there is in them (have you seen great Ukiyo-e hair? That is what I want to see.) These are fuzzy, like an old photo from the mid-70's but with better color. Granted, I got the book for $20.... This copy will be fine for me to leave out for students, but not part of my best books. (For reference as to why I am picky: I am an artist who works in paper & print and teaches paper & print.)
