The Art of Eating Well: Hemsley and Hemsley

One of the best
One of my favourite healthy eating books! I'm so happy that a book like this exists. I've been gluten and sugar free (processed sugar) for almost 2yrs now, and initially it was really hard to have inspiration for sweet treats, i had no idea what to do. I had found blogs that fit the bill, but almost all of those were geared towards vegans and vegetarians. Then i found out about this book and wanted to get it straight away. I love how much info is given especially on bone broths. I also really enjoy the section at the back on how to make things such as nut milks, dips, ketchup, nut butters, yoghurt-the list is endless.Although some of the recipes seem daunting to make, they're so delicious. So far i've made the Anytime eggs, Quicker than toast zucchini salad, Chicken tinola, and my favourite Sesame chicken salad with cucumber noodles - I pair this with sweet potato wedges with a cajun seasoning and a squeeze of lime juice. So divine!I also made my first ever attempt to make chocolate using the recipe in this book. My first batch wasnt that great, but i slowed down the cooking even more( i think i rushed the first time), and the more i make it the smoother and more delicious the chocolate is. I add an orange extract to mine and then once i pour the mould i grate orange zest over it.There are so many recipes i cant wait to make, such as the paradise bars.So armed with this cook book, and a few others, I do not feel deprived, and i really enjoy eating the meals. If you're interested in more books similar to this yet with a bit more of family friendly approaches to eating, one baking book i have is Amber Rose Love Bake Nourish. She uses fruit, honey, and maple syrup in her cakes and they're delicious. And recently I've come across Madaline Shaw, she has some great desserts and a lovely steak salad among other savoury treats.Yet Hemsley Hemsley is still leaps and bounds above any other I have!

Delicious. Healthful. Helpful
absolutely love it! I've been working my way through the recipes but this is more than a cookbook. I use this book as a daily reference. Since reading this book I have embraced whole foods and begun making things that I used to buy - most notably, broths and almond milk. My homemade versions taste much better without all of the chemicals and preservatives. Most importantly, I feel much better. This book is incredible and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Delicious, Elegant Recipes
I love this cookbook! Inspiring and just gorgeous to look at - The photos are incredible! Their philosophy on healthy eating is on point. I got the idea from reading this book that healthy eating can be fun and does not have to feel stressful or be a chore. There are plenty of recipes that are both paleo and vegetarian friendly. You want to make everything! So far, I have made the Moroccan Chicken, Sausage Cider Stew and the fig pudding. The fig pudding, sweetened with just dates, tasted decadent and delicious. I have tried to make grain-free, sugar-free deserts in the past and this one surpassed them all by a mile. These are not quick recipes but are well worth the wait. I do wish they had propermetric conversions. Almost everything is in ounces. I suggest a scale to make it easier.

Great Book
I absolutely love this book. Rather than flick through the pages, as I do with most cook books, I actually read it cover to cover and really spent the time to immerse myself into the H+H philosophy- the Happy Gut, Healthy Gut. The recipes in this book are amazing. My favourite has to be the Papaya, Halloumi and Watercress Salad! The ingredients are free from gluten, grains and refined sugars and call for high quality products. And it really makes you mindful about what you are putting into your body.

Lovely illustrations complete this incredible cookbook. If you have an interest in clean and healthy eating...this book is perfection!

I use this book every day
I had no idea I would be cooking out of the cookbook this much. Every recipe has turned out perfectly and tastes amazing. Who knew that healthy food can taste this good? They have great tips and ideas for making everything in your pantry the most nutritional it can be. I am only sad I waited so long to buy this book.

Recipes not innovative
The photos were nice and I liked that the recipes are healthy which is why I bought it. However, I didn't avtually get almost any new ideas, very similar recipes are all around the internet at the moment so it was quite dissapointing. If you do not cook a lot, the recipes probably meet your expectations but for a person who cooks quite much it didn't really inspire me at all.

Colorful, bright, healthy food!
This book is beautifully written and photographed. I've made about thirty recipes from the book and cannot say enough good things. I never end up feeling bloated or over-full after making these recipes. The fact that they're gluten, grain and dairy free allows me to serve as much food from this book as I want without adding to my waistline! The beet terrine is spectacular, as are all the salads and spiralized veggies. The apricot "salted caramels" are a showstopper. My husband ate three before he noticed they weren't actually caramel. The coconut dream bars are thirty times better than "Mounds" bars. I really enjoy this book!

Eat Well for Life
This book changed my life. Their real and healthy food mantra is what I have been looking for all my life. Healthy fats, fruit and veg. No refined sugars, wholesom whole food as it was meant to be. The recepies are easy to follow, not a whole lot of fancy ingredients, good instructions.

Sceptical to convert
Initially found this book intensely smug, bossy and irritating. 12 hours to boil bones? Sorry, didn't realise I needed an Aga to use this cookbook. 12-24 hours to "activate" soaked nuts in my "dehyrator"? What the hell's a dehydrator? Being told "how to chew" and what to use "in case you don't have any pomegranate molasses" irritated me to the point that I was ranting about it to my husband, and literally going to bed annoyed!Anyway, I persevered with the stupid thing, partly spurred on by the fact the that two authors are absurdly gorgeous so I hoped a bit of that might rub off on me if I ate their style of food.I started tentatively with some of the simpler, more snack type foods, and a couple of spiralizer recipes from their website in the hope of finding a realistic alternative to pasta and refined carbohydrates in general. It began to grow on me and I found myself dipping into it more and more.So far I have made:Blueberry muffins with cashew mango creamMuffin frittatasWatercress soup with brazil nut creamCourgette saladBaked courgette friesCannellini bean mashApple rings 5 waysBeef ragu and courgettiFish pie with celeriac mashShepherds pieCourgetti puttanescaLentil & squash curryCourgetti with red pestoSocca pizzaBagna caudaPistachio, fig and goat's cheese trifleSalted apricot caramelsMultiseed loafSo far every single one has turned out successfully and has been much more tasty, filling and satisfying than expected. This is the highest number of recipes I have ever made from one book, and I am by no means finished yet. I have found the recipes to mostly straightforward to make, although some are very process-heavy and involve a lot of prior planning as you have to soak nuts for a few hours, for example.I am now loving it, and think that their style is very clever and thoughtful. They have found excellent substitutes for mashed potatoes, rice, pasta, bread and cakes, which are made out of real food (mainly vegetables and fruit), and they are delicious. I have eaten a lot more fruit and veg since getting this book and my palate has developed and altered. Now, things like biscuits and sweets have mostly lost their appeal, as I have made much better treats from the book such as the salted caramel apricots - the flavour, texture and feeling of indulgence is far superior to any rubbish from a packet. The food would suit anyone following a low carbohydrate or paleo diet, or anyone who just wants to eat more healthily... or just eat heavenly tasting (and looking) food.It has made me learn new techniques, and introduced me to fruit, vegetables and other ingredients I had either never used before, or only once. Using this book has expanded my repertoire and made me a more confident, happy cook, because I'm cooking more and more "real" food.I don't know whether I look any better since I started using these recipes, but I think I feel a bit better - better concentration and mood levels. So I'm now converted, would heartily recommend it. Oh, and I gave in and eventually bought some pomegranate molasses!
