The Psychology of Kundalini Yoga

Come for Kundalini, Stay for Jung
There’s nothing sensational here—it’s made of transcripts from conferences where Jung attempts to align the chakras to his psychological theories. One expert claims probably only one westerner has ever completed the process of raising the Kundalini Force. Whether this is the case or not, it’s an interesting counterpoint to the mystery mongering in occultism about the subject. You’ll probably learn more about Jung’s ideas than Kundalini yoga, but that’s really the idea. Jung confesses a Westerner isn’t really equipped to hold forth on the subject. It’s a slim book, an interesting read—especially because it is a transcript, so it’s kind of like sitting in in a lecture by Jung. By the end, I knew a bit more about Kundalini yoga, and more about Jung.

Outstanding Insight into Jung's Perspective on Yoga and Meditation
An amazing piece of insight and a great companion to Jung's Red Book, The Psychology of Kundalini Yoga gives the reader a deeper perspective on Jung's journey to the east and the impact it had on his perspectives and practice. Highly recommended!

Know your stuff first
This is not for the layperson. It's for the well-versed in the subject. Now, I'm quite intelligent, but there's jargon I couldn't grapple with, and I think you'd need some sort of grounding in actual psychology to really grasp what's being said (college grad here with decent exposure to the subject). Challenging is a good word. Imagine reading a book on building custom gaming PCs without knowing what a gpu is- that's about the level. 😊

interesting perspective
As a student of Kundalini Shakti as a living practice, I am always interested in the process by which these ideas came to the West. This slim volume providew one episode in that ongoing story. While i disagree with Jung's conclusion that Kundalini practice is not for the Western student, his insights are important.

An excellent, scholarly work that underscores Jung's genius and his ideas, ahead of his time, serve as the original, foundational basis for understanding the integration of Western psychology with Eastern spirituality.

Makes it very clear
Love this because it makes this topic very clear and easy to understand. As usual, Jung can get heady at times but overall this is good. Most is from his lectures but the introduction really explains the topic very well.Highly recommend.
