The Little Book of Saints

Nice book with classic holy card illustrations
For the most part well written but I did find just a few statements that could be interpreted as anti-Semitic.

Truly Beautiful
This is such a lovely little book. I bought it for my grandmother for Christmas, and I know she will love it. It is about 6x4 in in dimension, making it a perfect little size for your hands, and the cover is a very soft padded material, making it feel really luxurious. This is a book you want to pick up and treasure. It makes you feel calm just holding it. The pages have a very bright gold leaf edging and the inside cover is very pretty pink rose color with various stained-glass window-esque portraits of various saints. Inside, the each page features the name of a saint, what he or she is the patron saint of, their feast day, and a one page history, including where it is not obvious, why they become the Patron Saint of a certain category (like why Saint Martin is the Patron Saint of Winemakers, even though he's famous for walking away from a life in the military because he no longer supported war). One the opposite page is a beautiful picture of the saint, chosen from various prayer books, missals, and prayer cards found from the late 1800s and early 1900s.My grandmother is very hard to shop for, but I know she will absolutely love this book. I am so happy with it. A definite buy.

Beautiful book, though saint "worship" is misleading...
What a beautiful book! I bought it as a gift for a friend and couldn't resist getting one for myself as well. The cover design is gorgeous (and I'm not just saying that because it features my patron saint, though I commend their taste). ;) The size and padded cover make it feel good in your hands as well. Though relatively small, it still covers about 90 saints, both famous and many lesser known ones. What I love best are all the vintage pictures from old holy cards (most of which apparently came from someone's private collection in Belgium). With the limited selection of holy cards available these days it's very refreshing to see so many "new" pictures. My only critique is that in the descriptions of the various saints, the authors mention the "worship" of the saints (e.g. "Although her worship is fairly widespread in France, very little is known about Saint Petronilla" or "Worship of Lucy traditionally involves light", etc). As a Catholic, I find this term completely inaccurate and misleading. Saints are not worshipped - we honor them and ask them to pray for us, but only God is worshipped. Still, overall I am very happy with my purchase and look forward to reading and treasuring it for years to come.

Not enough Info on Saints
The idea of short stories of the Saints brought me to purchase this book (Kindle Edition). Well, the stories are very short, and just seem incomplete for me. I felt that most of the stories could have been written in a bullet statement format, not narrative. The narratives on most of the saints did not flow well. Each Saint is listed as a type of Patron Saint, but the reasons a saint is chosen is lacking in many stories. I gave the book 3 stars, but I would not recommend it. There has to be a better book on saints out there. For me "little" was too little.

A lovely little book for the religious, the artistic or the nostalgic
The product description is perfect, so please read that description of this book's content; I can't improve on that. I have to agree that this is an elegant little book. The paper is just right - not too thin or thick, not too shiny or matte. The vintage graphics are beautifully reproduced. The edges are gilded, and the cover is padded and feels wonderful in your hands. This book feels like an authentic little prayer book from the 1950's. As with all Chronicle books I have purchased, and that is a lot, every detail has been considered carefully. I gave this as a gift to a friend who is not religious, but very artistic; she loved it.

A Beautiful Little Religious Gift
This book was a Christmas present for a relative who at one time was a Nun...... (I think deeply she still is). My sister and I bought this book as a gift for her to remember us each time she reads it. When we received our thank you, she said the book reminded her of her Communion Booklet with the padded cover and she absolutely loved it. It will make a perfect gift for anyone who loves to read about the Saints.

Perfect little book
Absolutely beautiful little book very well made and presented, the illustration is absolutely exquisite and the short biography of each saint is perfect for anyone wanting to learn a little bit more about the holy people we revere as saints, I would recommend for anyone wanting to explore their faith a little more. I am not Catholic but I am religious and I do respect and revere the saints as people of god. Well worth owning, I particularly like the cushioning on the cover though the picture adorning my cover is slightly scratched in transport but I do not mind this and will likely adore this book for years to come. I will be buying some of the other titles that go along side this series of works, thank you for your help in my spiritual journey, god bless

BEAUTIFUL
In addition to a different Saint book I own that runs in chronological order, this one is in alphabetical order and describes what each of these beloved saints is Patron of. Also contains a day by day contents at the back. Most striking are the illustrations, magical little antique cards have been used. Simply beautiful. I shall treasure this little book forever.

Not for kids
This is a lovely little book with fascinating stories of the Saints and beautiful illustrations. I bought it for my 7 year old daughter but soon discovered it's not for children.

Very pretty
This book reminds me of the bible stories I was taught as a child. The simple but pretty illustrations and short accompanying text make it suitable for adults and all but the very young children. The padded cover lifts it above the ordinary.
