The Legend of the Bluebonnet

When this book was first published, my grandmother bought it for me as a child. I very fond memories of this book. Now that I have my own young children, I am passing on this beautiful memory and purchased them each a copy. They love it!

I love Tomie dePaola books - they are so well written and hold a child's attention. I highly recommend this book as well as the others he has written.

Beautifully written as well as illustrated. Was given as gift I will treasure from our TX garden club.

Especially every girl in Texas, born in Texas, or wishes she lived in Texas should know this story. It's told almost the way my grandmother told it to me about 75 years ago. The illustrations are awesome.

I read this book when I was a child in elementary school. I’m now in my early 30s. I love the sacrifice this sweet child made for her people and I happen to believe that it’s more than a legend and rooted in truth. That this event indeed happen. I’m Native American Cherokee myself on my dad’s side. This book is so touching and wholesome and I’ll hold on to it for life. It’s that good.

There is a Native Legend about the bluebonnets that bloom all over Texas in the Spring. I purchased this book for my sister to accompany some tea towels that have bluebonnet embroidered on them. She wasn't aware of the book, but I, being a librarian, have shared it with many students who came into my school's library. I planted seeds in a pot and the students watched the progress of sprouting, growth, and blooming of the flowers. Bluebonnets are the Texas State Flower and bloom all over the state in the spring. The book is beautiful.

Like. A gift

I read this book as a little girl and it was such an amazing story that when I had children I read it to them, and now I’m starting to have grandchildren and I buy this book for each of them. Such a beautiful story and wonderfully written. Definitely a book to add to any child’s collection!

Beautifully illustrated and beautiful story about giving that a little girl, much more mature and understanding than any adult, stars.

Had this for my children but lost it so I bought it for my granddaughter. Lovely story.
