City Walks: Paris: 50 Adventures on Foot

Through all your other guide books away
This is all that you will need to have a nice walk around tour of Paris by yourself, and without the help of guides are other agencies. We even follow the tips in that book regarding the purchase of tickets and the times of day to visit. Remember that Paris was laid out by the same people that laid out Washington DC. A block is not a block is a blah block. Blocks or acres in length and starting from point a to get to point B may end up being a days hike. I also found that my iPhone and the maps in it are just as good but like the commentary .

Don't rely on the placement of the numbered landmarks
I purchased these cards to supplement my planning for a trip to Paris I will be taking early next year. The thing I like about them is they are a good resource for suggested routes of exploration for different areas in Paris. By using Google Earth Street View with these cards, I'm able to check a route and determine if it would be a good one for the actual trip.If you plan to use these cards, you might want to consider the pre-planning that I am doing. On one card, it shows a route that apparently goes through building where there is no passage. I thought it was odd that I couldn't see a passage on Google Earth. I checked my Streetwise map and it shows the same building with no passage. On another card, the route shows to walk a short distance down a street to a chocolate shop, which the map shows is in the first block on the west side of the street. Again, I checked this in Google Earth and I couldn't find the shop in the location indicated on the map. The card says the shop's address number is 89, but the only address I found in that block on that side of the street was 72. Once I turned around and moved down to the next block, there it was at 89, on the opposite side of the street from what is shown on the card's map.I looked at a third card in the same general area. I found that it directed me along a street that was visited on a previous card and it suggested a store next to a store that was already visited on the previous card. The 3 cards suggest that they can be done sequentially. Why send me down the same street on 2 different occasions to visit stores that are next to each other? I also found, by way of an Internet search, that one of the shops they suggest isn't even there anymore. Not very impressive for a 2012 edition.Out of 50 cards, I have only checked 3 cards. The odds are not very good for these cards being accurate if I've found errors on the first 3 cards I've checked. For the price, these cards are good for how I'm using them, as a source for ideas. I may or may not actually take them with me when I travel to Paris.

This is more fun in theory.
I was SO excited to use these while we were in Paris, and we did. However, not anywhere near as much as I thought we would. The streets aren't marked very well there, and it was easy to get lost. We spent a lot of time confused, and most of the time ended up giving up and wandering around on our own without the cards. Glad we had cell phones to save us when we were ready to head back to the hotel. The cards themselves are neat though. I might just leaf through the box and read the cards so while I'm out and about I will remember the things we already read while not wandering around lost.

I love this box of cards
I was given the original set as a gift several years ago. I ended up leaving one of the cards in a bistro where we had lunch :( That being said, I love this box of cards! We went on several of the walks. Sometimes, we used them as starting off points, sometimes we actually finished a walk or two. They are certainly not the only thing I take to Paris, but I like them so much, I just purchased 3 boxes to loan to friends when I lead a trip in October, 2018.My only quibble is two misspellings. Ladurée doesn't have a capital D, and the marvelous little goodies sold there are macarons, not macaroons. They are totally different things, each one delicious. And you know, if that's the biggest complaint I have, that's ok!

I think these will be very useful!
Shipped promptly in great condition as advertised. Was real glad this newer revision has the numbers on both the back and front of the cards. I will be using these in a couple of months along with the moleskin Paris notebook. Between these cards and the notebook I am hoping these maps will be all I need to get around on a daily basis. What is nice about these cards once you plan your day, you can take only the cards that cover that area with you. We will be a group of 4 adults and another advantage is each walk (card) start and end close to a metro stop so if one or more of us get tired we can find the closet metro stop to get us back to our hotel or a cafe to rest. On some of the cards (haven't read them all) there are recommended sites, cafes and restaurants with some brief history.

Paris is always a good idea and so are these city walk cards.
Love, love, love this desk. My boyfriend and I spent five glorious day in Paris. We rented a little apartment in the 9th and the home owner had this deck in the apartment for the guests to enjoy. Each day when we left the apartment we would grab a few city walks to do. The walks are great because they were short but informative. I like knowing the little secret facts about the city and this deck provides that. These were especially helpful when walking through a part of the city we hadn't seen before. It was a nice introduction to the area. It's like having your own personal tour guide in your back pocket. When we returned home I purchased this as a gift for my boyfriend as a fun memory of our time in Paris and as a promise to return so we can do the walks we didn't have time to get to.

Useful and appreciated
If you go to Paris with a loved one, friends, co-workers, family, or alone, the notion of just being in Paris is heady enough, isn't it? Getting lost in Paris isn't the worse thing that can happen to a person. Maybe never going to Paris is a whole lot worse. These cards are packable, portable a few at a time for daily sojourns, and help enough that any tourist using them will not be overwhelmed by the city. No, they are not perfect either in design or updates, but that's okay since Paris is. Get them, use them, enjoy having them when traveling, then leave them at a gateway airport for the next tourist to benefit. Bon voyage.

Can't wait to try these in Paris
I'm really looking forward to using these walks/maps when we get to Paris this summer. We've been looking through them to figure out which ones are close to the apartment we've rented and which are most interesting to us - lots to choose from, all with really interesting notes and activities.

Somewhat useful
Fun to look at at home. Walks are short and information very limited. Good place to start for planning your walks.

Great Set
I didn't end up going to Paris as planned but these cards were still fascinating to look at! Very compact and fun to read.
