The stories are well told but the story teller is not identified.

Good sampling of stories from the 1st Nations peoples of the Pacific North West.

I originally purchased this book in the early 1970's when my children were quite young. We've always lived in the Pacific Northwest and have traveled and done a lot of camping in this beautiful country. When on long car rides/camping trips, I would read to them. Recently, all of the family was together and my children got so excited when they saw I had the book. They told my grandchildren how much the book meant to them when they were young. They picked some of their favorites legends and read them to the grandkids. It made me feel so good to see my kids excited and sharing the excitement with their kids.

Was hoping it would include more of the tales of Alaska's southeast coast...most of the tales were from Oregon and Washington... but a very interesting book.

I enjoyed the legends which were comparable to my previous understanding of the tribes in this area. I sent it to my grandson.

Nice book. Good graphics. Good stories. I guess the author spent many years of research in the topic. Plus if you want you can trace the stories to their sources with such a complete bibliography and references she includes.

I haven't used the book yet, but when I glanced over it, it has stories that will relate to my teaching of Pacific Northwest legends.

Ich war diesen Sommer im Nordwesten der USA unterwegs, quer durch den Olympic National Park und war so begeistert von meinen Eindruecken, dass ich sofort danach nach einem Buch mit Indianischen Legenden gesucht habe und dabei auf dieses Buch gestossen bin. Viele Buecher versammeln nur die Legenden bestimmter Staemme, dieses Buch bietet dagegen einen sehr guten Ueberblick. Es wird unterschieden zwischen Legenden zu Bergen, Fluessen, Seen und wirklich viele Staemme sind beruecksichtigt. Dazu gibt es (sehr) kurze Einleitungen. Diese haetten bisweilen ruhig laenger ausfallen duerfen in meinen Augen - so gibt es relativ wenig Text um die einzelnen Legenden drum herum, doch dafuer gibt es natuerlich auch wiederum andere Buecher. Insgesamt gefaellt mir dieses Buch sehr gut und es ist genau das was ich gesucht habe: viele kurze Geschichten, muendlich ueberliefert, von vielen verschiedenen Staemmen.
