Ok, I haven't read it yet, and assume it's great. Giving 4 out of 5 because I had to buy paperback. If ANY book should have the privacy advantage of kindle, this one should. I don't feel comfortable reading it on the train or in front on my impressionable teenagers.

I've tried SOOO many things the past couple years - support groups, therapy, supplements, reaching out... this is the first thing that actually works for me, and I can do it on my own and it's inexpensive and easy. Easy IF you are committed to the process. I haven't been able to go more than 2-3 days without booze, but right now I'm on day 14 and am confident I'll make it to day 30 and then I will reassess. Feeling very proud and accomplished. This book is pragmatic, scientific, not religious or shame-based. Feeling so much better! Clarity, alert, sleeping better, mood stabilized. PHEW.

Great resource for those of us who desire (or require) ...
Great resource for those of us who desire (or require) a little more moderation in their lives. Guidance is applicable to issues other than drinking.

Not for everyone
Book is up front about being for those who want to moderate their alcohol intake but are NOT alcohol dependent, I.e., alcoholic or addicted. Very evidence based and reasonable.

Didnt work for this woman
So you might not find my review helpful, but who knows maybe you willI bought this lie 2.5 years ago ( estimating) I really really wanted to drink alchohol like my partner and friends... you know, like once a week maybe at dinner, socially and only have 2, unless it was a special occasion , and then maybe have 3 or 4. Get a happy buzz, then stop drinking! That's what I wanted, because that was not what I did. I wont go into how I was drinking or how often... but let's say I rarely was going out with friends anymore because I didnt feel comfortable unless i drank, and if I did drink I wasnt stoping at 2, 3, or even 4 which sometime caused my friends to feel uncomfortable. So I drank mostly at home, alone .I bought this book hoping it would help me drink responsibly, but no matter how many times I tried, once I drank one drink... the rest I could not stop from drinking.It took me a year to stop drinking after attempting this method and ended up in hospital for 3 weeks, almost dying and then got help from others who understood. Now I'm glad that I dont have to drink. My friends who loved me then, still love me today, and now I have tons more who love and understand me...But most important is I now I love myself.Now, I know not all people may have been as bad as me, but I know people who were as bad as me, will do anything to drink normally before we give up the idea that we can.There is a saying among alcoholics... " it's the first drink that gets us drunk"If your just a heavy drinker this book might help, if you are like me get help. Go to your doctor, hospital, detox, treatment, or a 12 step group ( the latter is free).

There is probably something useful for you here.
I think most people who need this topic will find this book helpful. It covers many different situations, but the chances that the one that you need is among them. Therefore, you will probably find most of the book irrelevant, but the parts that speak to you will be VERY useful.

A must for anyone who wants to be in control of drinking.
How refreshing - and helpful this book is to people who cannot relate to Alcoholics Anonymous. Rather than seeing oneself as helpless to alcohol, requiring total abstinence, it puts her in control. The book is chock filled with sensible information and techniques that work!

extraordinary workbook that has changed my life. full of science, facts, charts, personal stories, places to write your own plans, etc. well organized, well written, so honest and real. I understand alcoholism so much more now, and see what I need to do to remain moderate. best book I bought all year. bare none.
