Good technical content, but needs much better editing
The folks who wrote this obviously know what they are doing, but the text is either poorly edited, or written by someone for whom English is a second language. The text has a large number of grammatical errors, dropped words, etc. It can require several readings of a paragraph to grasp what is being said. In addition, there are a number of instances where mathematical terms are not defined (or defined in translated English), making it difficult to understand what is being presented. Apart from these foibles, it is a very good book.

Very detailed information on the analysis of blade strength and vibration modes. The book provides an overview of standard turbine blade designs and manufacturing methods. The book covers blades for a range of steam turbines and not specifically for 3600 RPM turbine-generator systems. Book does NOT cover how to determine the number of blades or stages for a specific target output.

The book "Blade Design and Analysis for Steam Turbines" provides a unique compendium of all concepts, basic analytical formulas and techniques needed to cope with design of industrial steam turbines flowpath (blades) components.While there is a wider literature on large steam turbines applied in power generation, very few books are covering or focusing on industrial steam turbines for mechanical drive applications. Mechanical drive applications are especially demanding in requiring to steam turbines capability to adapt to variable speed and variable loads, challenging the design of flowpath components. Present book from Dr. Singh is one of the few books covering these challenges and presenting a very good summary of 30 years expertise achieved in mechanical drive steam turbines design.The book "Blade Design and Analysis for Steam Turbines" is very well covering the challenges of design for dynamic behavior and vibration of industrial steam turbines blades. It moves from guidance to vibration behavior of bladed disk system (chapter 7), to damping concepts and damper system design (chapter 6), to methods (simplified and detailed) to estimate dynamic stresses (Chapter 7), to guidance to perform High Cycle Fatigue (HCF) assessment of blades including the effects of residual stresses and giving useful guidance on fatigue resistance correction factors (Chapter 8), to a review of manufacturing methods and design solutions (Chapter 3).The book represents a basic reading for those who are approaching the design of blades for variable speed mechanical drive industrial steam turbines.

Solid Professional Reference
Blade Design and Analysis is a solid professional reference for any stakeholder in Steam Turbine Engineering; from the Turbine Blade Engineer to the Process Plant Reliability expert. This book addresses all facets of steam turbine blade design from bending and centrifugal stress to vibratory responses and stress. Discussions on applications, root attachments, blade sections and shrouding are top-notch. You don't find two more accomplished experts in the Steam Turbine Engineering field than Dr. Murari Singh and George Lucas. I highly recommend a copy for any Rotating Equipment Engineer's library.

Blade Design and Analysis for Steam Turbines The book Blade Design & Analysis for Steam Turbines by Dr. Murari Singh and George Lucas is a necessary addition to the technical reference library on rotating machinery. It fills a hole that currently may only be partially addressed by assembling technical papers. This book provides considerable detail on the basic design and the history of the design tools as well as a comprehensive discussion of advanced analytical techniques. Both authors are well versed and experienced in the practical application of these technologies.Industrial steam turbines are a critical driver in many heavy industries, e.g., oil refining, chemical processing, and steel manufacture . The design characteristics, particularly blading design, contains a level of complexity greater than of power generation turbines due to the need to address variable speed operation. Most books on this subject are very general and basic providing general awareness with limited technical detail. What has been missing is the reference which goes beyond the basic awareness to provide senior engineers with the technical background to critically evaluate and challenge manufacturer designs, particularly for new designs or extensions of existing designs.The book provides a historical perspective on the design process employed in blade design and analysis. It discussed in detail current technological practices in selection, performance analysis, blade loading, construction and manufacture, material selection and evaluation, stress and vibration analysis, and reliability assessment. It also addresses bladed disk reactions, damping techniques, life assessment and risk estimation. It closes with a review of deterministic and probabilistic comparisons of these analyses. The book is replete with figures, sketches, and pictures. It also includes an extensive reference section.Knowledgeable machinery engineers should welcome this book as tremendous extension to their reference library. It captures a breadth of detailed information that has not been available in a single reference before.

Clear overview of blade design theory combined with practical information.
Well written and easy to follow. One of the clearest overviews on blade design that I have read. Good combination of the theory with practical information on manufacturing, installation and quality control. Although the description indicated this book applied to industrial steam turbines, most of it applies equally to larger utility machines as well.
