Bill Evans Bk/CD Keyboard Signature Licks Paperback – June 1, 2003

I don't follow Bill's solos in the literal sense although I sometimes copy his chord voicings. This is a great book for those who want to copy the improvs and more importantly, it is a great book for those who want to follow Bill in an impressionistic sense - playing along enough to follow his thinking and then adapt themselves to it. This book and CD make it easy for those of us less gifted who still want to find Bill's spirit if not his essence. Well worth the money!!

This book provides a unique set of well transcribed pieces by Bill Evans. Top of my favorites is "Five". There is short commentary about styles and technique which is fine, but style and technique are all in how you play anyway, and the transcriptions speak for themselves.I find it to be an excellent book because of the unique pieces which if studied will give you insights into Evans' approach. Listen to the recordings, either that come with the book or from Rhapsody or any other source of a Bill Evans tune in this book and you are bound to catch on to some of the unique techniques used.

Cheap publishing paper and binding but music makes up for it!

I have become a new born fan of Evans. His piano is just breath-taking, the arrangements befuddling and his muse so inspiring.You'll need good theory skills, but it doesn't matter, get this book!

Good transcriptions

Excellent book although a challenge to play but with regular practice a real opportunity to play like Bill Evans!

These are merely transcriptions of Bill Evans' solos. Trying to read his stuff is hard enough, but the narrative is so generalized that there's no way to comprehend what Evans is really doing harmonically or melodically. No in depth discussion or analysis of, for example, voicings, which are among his most important pioneering contributions to playing jazz on the piano. Just about every jazz player employs at least some of Evans' voicings.A waste of money.

Da kann man wirklich Bill Evans selber spielend nacherleben. Die Stücke erstrecken sich z.T. über 5 Seiten, alles man kommt schön in Spielfluss. Begleitung ist auf einen Kanal gelegt, und das Demo-Klavier auf dem anderen. Finde ich persönlich die beste Lösung. Wirklich tolle Solos und perfekt transkribiert.

I love Bill Evans style and this book will help me explore it.
