The best thing about the book are the in-depth trail descriptions. I hike quite a bit in various terrain but have balance issues so I need to research trails before I go on them. This book is 5 stars for that. The black and white photos are just fine too. The only issue is the directions seem one sided - which is fine if your coming from the east. Get out Google maps if any other direction.

This book, as well as others by Johnny Molloy, are the most practical hiking books I have found. Johnny Molloy gives you all the important info you need to have a safe hike with nothing to catch you off guard. I love the practical info that gives me peace of mind when starting a hike! So glad I found his hiking books!

My wife and I had been planning our move to Tennessee since 2017. I found the information contained in Mr. Molloy’s guidebooks one of the reasons we chose Northeast TN as our landing point. We love canoeing and hiking and his guidebooks are excellent. We currently live in Johnson City and this guidebook suggest so many great hikes within an hour’s drive that we did not find on the internet. His writing style is easy to relate to and the initial trail information for each excursion is very informative. Thanks for another great guidebook addition to our Tennessee outdoor library.

We loaned this book to a friend and didn't get it back so definitely wanted to reorder. After having lived in the Tri-Cities for eleven years now, we were amazed at the hikes in the book we had not yet discovered that are included in the book. The detailed instructions make finding the trailhead and following the trail very doable. Excellent book for anyone looking for great hiking in an area full of wonderful destinations.

This is a fantastic introduction to area hikes. There are definitely some hidden gems in here and the narrative will keep you on track, I have not been lost using the directions in this book. One criticism I would have is the elevation profiles are sometimes inaccurate, such as with the Nolichucky Gorge hike.
