As the final variants of the Spitfire to enter service, the Rolls-Royce Griffon powered Mk.22/24 were very different from the prototype aircraft that took to the sky in 1936. Double the weight and possessing more than twice the power, the last Spitfires had an increased climb rate of 80% over the prototype and were around 100mph faster.

Nice model
Nice model. I like the 1:48 scale best for these planes - much more detailed than 1:72. Easy to assemble except for the cockpit - positioning is tricky.

It's the worst of Airfix
It’s not the Airfix known of very good quality of their models. The fitting is terrible. No markings for the installation of the pilot sit assembly and the instrumental panel. Huge gups between wing in the fuselage. And the icing on the cake - the landing gears are impossible to install, they simply don’t fit at all. It’s the first model I abandon. R.I.P.Don’t waste your money on this model

Tricky to assemble and fit
This is a very pleasing looking kit with nice detail and good proportions however it comes from a mould over 20 years old. Some parts fit well together but others are difficult. The detail in the cockpit and fitting together is unclear and you need a bolster to raise the pilot correctly and to ensure the fuselage fits together. The wings when attached to the fuselage do not locate properly and are maginally twisted so you need masking tape and some filler which takes some time. The undercarriage legs are tricky to fit in the locating holes and need readjustment to get the correct angle. I thought the legs were actually moulded incorrectly. If you can navigate around these problems it can be a good kit eventually, but Airfix need to do better aand this is not for a beginner if you want a pleasing model.

Fab
Grandson who is very interested in WW2 aircraft and in particular the Spitfire was thrilled with this. He has had to have help from his dad to put it together, but as he is only seven he has done very well.

Tricky kit, not perfect but a nice plane
Overall this is a very striking, nice looking plane that is fun to build, however the wings are very tricky to attach at the fuselage area and there is very little guidance for the cockpit to attach. The canopy glass is also a bit rough looking and without a bit of trimming the landing gear just won't go in. When it is painted and done it is still a really cool kit.

Quality product
I enjoyed this model, I wet sanded it and primed it before applying alclad 2 on the base coat, tool 4 hours to build, 10 hours to prepare and prime, 6 hours to paint and detail over a weekend.

Not as detailed as the Supermarine Spitfire FR Mk XIV Kit
A very nice model. Just nothing like as detailed as the sister kit, being a "classic".
