Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps

Adds some depth to the various Lanterns of Blackest Night
Blackest Night may very well be the best crossover to come out of DC in quite a while, with mastermind writer Geoff Johns providing various other titles that add a bit of depth not only to the main storyline, but to the various colored Lanterns that play such pivotal roles. Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps provides a handful of stories involving various members of various Lanterns; namely Green Lanterns Kilowog and Arisia, Red Lantern Bleez, Agent Orange Larfleeze, Sinestro Corps member Mongul, Blue Lantern Saint Walker, Star Sapphire Carol Ferris, and Indigo Tribe leader Indigo-1. We also bear witness to the birth of Nekron, and even get a first hand take on The Book of the Black. Also featured here is the two-part story from Adventure Comics in which Superboy Prime yearns for a happy ending, but winds up facing off against the newly-risen Black Lantern Alexander Luthor and the heroes Prime murdered during Infinite Crisis. The various artists, including Jerry Ordway, Rags Morales, and Doug Mahnke among others, do great work, while Johns along with Peter J. Tomasi and Sterling Gates manage to flesh out more of the overall Blackest Night story. All in all, Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps isn't an essential tie-in to Blackest Night, but it is a worthwhile endeavor regardless.

A Solid Group of One-Shots that Provide Backstory for the War of Light and Blackest Night
Tales of the Corps is a series of one-shot stories that provide a bit of further background on the various Corps members who factor into the War of Light and the Blackest Night DC event. As Black Hand and the undead Black Lanterns rise and start their assault on the living, the various Corps are involved in numerous struggled with one another i.e. the War of Light. While these one shots are not at all necessary for understanding the Blackest Night event they do provide some solid background information for characters like Blue Lantern Saint Walker, one of Larfleeze's Orange Lanterns, as well as many others. The book also includes notes from the Book of the Black that detail the twisted life of William Hand himself.

Great for every Fan
This is t a great read if you want some background on the key players throughout the Green Lantern Multi-verse. The comic is bright and amazingly detailed. The dialogue is great. I would 100% recommend this to anyone who wants to know more who wants to re validate what they already know. Check it out. Cheap price, smart purchase.

Good base for Blackest Night
This read is not necessary, but it was good to get some backstory on some cool characters like St. Walker and Kilowog. The Superboy-Prime comics towards the end can be avoided and you won't miss anything. Is worth at least checking out though!

The smallest of the tie-ins!
Actually a worthwhile purchase because it continues the superboy story after Legion of three Worlds, but most of the rest focuses on small stories of every corps and book of the black inscriptions by Black hand on his view of each emotion along with very revealing insight into his childhood. Not essential to Blackest Night and add very little, Black hand is the star here and lets say not visually, TEXTUALLY only!

More Good Zombie Reading
I got all of the Blackest Night books not only because I love DC, but because of the zombie angle also. Once you start, you just can't stop with the Blackest Night books. Just make sure you read Green Lantern: Blackest Night first! Nothing else will make sense until you read that first.

Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps HC review
Well, while I won't describe this book as bad, I would say is somewhat pointless for the main story. It contains several stories regarding the past of some members of the different corps such as Killowog, Carol Ferris, etc. While the stories aren't bad, the art in some of the tales is awful and because of that this looks (on the inside) like a cheap book. There's also chapters of the Book of the Black, which are supposed to be some anecdotes written by Black Mask. Besides there's some varan cover gallery and sketches of some characters. If you must, and ONLY if you must, get this book, but I will highly recomend to wait for the paperback edition or a cheaper one. This book is not necessary and doesn't really have the juice to pay full price for it.

Avvincente
