Great Book on a Tuscan Landscape Treasure
La Foce was a compelling read about one of the more famous estates in Tuscany. The book contains family photos of, and plans for, one of the most beautiful gardens in the world. This book is a "must read" for people who have visited Tuscany (or plan to in the future0, are interested in Tuscany, love gardening, or enjoy understanding the history of a very special place . This book will garner lots of favorable attention on your coffee table or bookshelf. It is a book you will go back to again and again.

Multiple views of a famous garden
Whether you've visited it or not (I have), this book is enriching because each chapter looks at La Foce from a different perspective. The founders' grand-daughter synthesizes the fascinating history of the garden, the estate, and the region, accompanied by illuminating period photographs. The photographer offers, and comments on, a hundred varied photos. The artist shares her informative and analytical notes along with her drawings. And an expert situates Cecil Pinsent's work in garden design history. This is a book for specialists that can be enjoyed by amateurs as well.

Beautiful photographs of a truly gorgeous estate in Tuscany
This is a beautiful book with gorgeous photographs. I have read several books about La Foce and Iris Origo and wanted to know more about the estate. Someday I would like to stay on the property. They have several options for vacation rental. The story of the Origo’s during WWII is heartwarming and inspiring.

italian Garden architecture
This is a beautifully illustrated book depicting an ancient villa near Siena, Italy, which was restored before the second world war. An Italian aristocrat married a wealthy Anglo/ American woman who was acquainted with an English landscape architct and the three of them created gardens that we now consider classic formal italian landscaping. The woman kept a diary of the work on the gardens and villa and the second world war coming into the estate, published as " War in Val d'Orcia". Invaluable records.

Beautiful book, beautiful region of Italy
Beautiful book, beautiful region of Italy. We spent 19 days in Italy with a week at La Foce and enjoyed those seven days the most. The estate is more beautiful than the pictures in the book.

La Foce
Gorgeous garden and beautiful book with fascinating history. Gave it to a friend as a gift. She and her husband lived nearby and it was a pleasure to see her reaction when I gave her the book.

A wonderful book
I read Iris Origo's War Diary and was so moved by her account of WW2 in the area around her home. My husband and I visited La Foce as a result of this. What an amazing place. I had been put off by the price of this book before I visited La Foce. Having been there and seeing the book in the shop it became number 1 on my list to buy when I returned from holiday in Italy. It is wonderful! A description of the garden and house alongside fantastic photographs and drawings. Worth every penny!!
