The Scout Law: Quotes for Life Paperback – October 15, 2002

Purchased as a gift for an Eagle Scout. I like the way the quotes are organized according to the 12 points of the Scout Law. I would like to purchase a copy for myself at some point, but will definitely purchase for future Eagles and scout leaders. I think it provides some wisdom for all young men on their journey to adulthood. Perfectly titled.

The addition of multiple quotes along with the 12 points of the (Boy) Scout Law help to give a broader understanding of each of the 12 points. There were however some quotes which were added which did not exactly fit the particular Scout Law it was being used to expound. Overall, the book would have usefulness in teaching the Scout Laws to young scouts in a group setting such as troop meetings.

This book should be mandatory for any Scout aspiring to become a Star, Life or Eagle and for any Leader of those Scouts. These quotes are from people who inspire, not just people associated with Scouting. The only thing that makes it directed at Scouts is the cover and that inspiration is what Scouts grow with. A wonderful, touching gift.

We have several Eagle Scouts ion our family, and another well on his way. This is a wonderful reminder if the meaning of the Scout Law. Scouting is for life, and teaches well how to best move through it. These quotes are inspiring for all of us.

I bought this book as a donation for a Woodbadge fundraiser. I think it would be a great resource for scoutmasters to use when they do the scoutmaster minute. A bit small, but good for its purpose.

I thought this would be a book with humor and fun like you'd find in Boy's Life magazine. This book is so boring -- a collection of quotes that have only the most remote connection to scouting. My son's reaction: "A bunch of dumb sayings by a lot of dead guys I've never heard of!" No 11-year-old boy is EVER going to read this book! This is a book that is bought by well-meaning parents because they have this idealized view that somehow these "great words of wisdom" will make their son a better person. Sorry, but the real world isn't so simplistic! Kids today are into comic books, video games, music, and sports.My son and his friends would LOVE a book that makes scouting fun -- with jokes, games, and interesting stories! If you're going to do a book of quotes, which most readers in this age group find about as interesting as reading the phone book, at least get the quotes from contemporary figures who would be recognizable to the average elementary school kid!
