Food Combining for Health: Get Fit with Foods that Don't Fight

Some say it's "hokey"....Not Me!!
I had read a little about food combining in the past, and I was skeptical. Having suffered from increasingly bad digestive problems, (pain, bloating, a general feeling of "heaviness", a LOT of gas, etc...), I ordered this book to find out more. The book was very interesting, but the recipes are dated, and I can't handle such bland food. I adapted it to the foods I enjoy and ignored the recipes, just using the "framework" of how to combine foods properly.I don't care what anybody else says,...you can throw all the scientific "facts" about the stomach "knowing" how to make the proper enzymes for any combination of foods at any given time at me you want to,...Food Combining works for me. When I combine correctly, I feel much better. When I try to eat starches with meats now (eg. my husband's favorite meals of meat and potatoes), I am miserable within minutes. An accquaintance of mine was having terrible health problems (she has Crohn's disease) and her health was failing fast. I gave her a copy of this book and told her,..."see what you think,...if it doesn't work for you give it to someone else or chuck it, your choice". A month later I noticed she looked about 85% BETTER! So I asked, "How are you doing?", and she told me that between some new thyroid medication and food combining she feels like a new person. She is not cured, but she is enjoying life again.I'm sure it's not for everybody----but if you are having problems, what have you got to lose?? Try it!!

Easy to understand the food combining technique as written in this book.
I really like the information in this book; example, the Table of Compatible Foods. This table makes preparing a meal very simple. Most of the recipes have a short ingredient list with common foods. I made the Oatcakes (page 227) and they came out very tasty. There are 4 menus for a week, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. I could easily make this my only cookbook.

Excellent for maintaining or getting good health
This is an excellent book to learn about food combining. They say all disease starts in the gut, and this is where food combining plays a big part to aid the gut to do its job properly. Excellent guide on which foods to eat together and which not, as well as other great information. I bought this in England when it was first published and this new purchase was for my daughter-in-law who cooks great food and has banished all pre-packaged and processed food from her kitchen. Well done girl!

Get Fit and Feel Better
I followed the advice in Food Combining for Health and it has help eliminate digestion problems including problems of food backing up into my esophagus. I seem to feel better and sleep better. You can eat all you want, but eat the "combining" way. This book is necessary, because it lists foods that you can eat together and tells you exactly how combining foods helps your health. I highly recommend it!

good book, good information
Must have for anyone starting the Hay diet. Good explanations and nice recipes. A basic starter for anyone interested in the "food combining" life style.

Hay Diet...not made simple !
Making food combination complicated. Got the book for a simple break down. TOO much depth and unnecessary information. Not a bad book...

The original food combining guide
I had this book years ago and followed the diet religiously for quite a few years. However I did relax my approach to the diet but kept a few basic principles going such as no potatoes with meat/fish etc. because the book was so well used it fell apart and had to be thrown out. So after years of not really following the diet I thought it would be good toner visit it and I decided to order the book again. I do believe this way of eating works and I always notice the differences immediately. For me this is the most straight forward publication on the market. The combination list is simple to follow and covers most common foods. Other books have tried to take the diet further and adding complicated diagrams, acid fruits, sub acid fruits and a whole host of extra terminology to over complicate the relatively straight forward concept of the regime. If you are looking to try food combining, I feel this is a great book to get. It does not go into too much technical detail, so no need for a degree in nutrition, there are seasonal meal/menu plans included to show you how to make the diet work on a daily basis. The recipes may seem a little out dated now, but meals are simple using fresh ingredients. I like that the recipes are basic and not Michelin star style because it means I can incorporate them into my daily life without having to spend hours in the kitchen preparing complexed recipes. The main stay of the diet is based on fresh fruit and veg and small amounts of proteins and carbs which is very much in line with the 5 a day approach. I do feel I have more energy as I am treating my digestive system more kindly and I never feel hungry on the diet or have food cravings, which for me is very positive. It's really good to have a copy of the book once more and embrace the diet in more detail.

Food Combining For Health
Get fit with foods that don't fight is on the front cover and it really is just that. This book was printed in the USA 1989 with all the recipes being in American quantities. This system really does cover many of today's ailments for a healthy well being. As the print is slightly larger than the English books it makes it easier to read!

Best food health book ever.
I wouldn't be without this book. It's a must for all sorts of health problems. The principal is not to mix your carbs with your protein, as they fight if eaten together. This is my food bible, as I suffer with stomach problems. Take time to read this book. It should be on everyone's list for easy, healthy eating/cooking.
