HUSKY TOWING 31527 Spring BAR Retainer Pack

For round bar weight distribution hitches
This review is for the Husky Spring Bar Retainer (SPR) kit that holds the equalizer bars in a hitch designed for equalizer bars and this SPR. My clip was broken due to the drive screw head being broken off during a turn with my camper. I do not know what brand of hitch I have (it is a round bar weight distribution hitch), so I ordered these because they looked identical to what I have on my hitch. The SPR kit came in very quickly from "4 Wheel Online" (3 days). It comes with 2 spring clips, 2 retaining pins (to hold equalizer bars in place), 2 drive screws (to hold spring clips in place), and easy to follow instructions. You will need to provide a hammer, a 1/8" drift punch, and a chisel (IF you want to remove the drive screw head.....otherwise, you will not need the chisel.....mine was already broken off.). The installation is very simple and easy. Remove the old spring clip and retaining pin by using the chisel to remove the head of the drive screw. Then, use a 1/8" drift punch to drive the remainder of the sheared drive screw completely thru and out the equalizer bar receptacle hole. NO DRILLING NEEDED with the drift punch! The new drive screw did not align squarely with the previous drive screw hole on my hitch, so I SLIGHTLY drilled out the hole on the bottom of the spring clip (spring clip ONLY!) with the next largest drill bit than the spring clip hole itself. I inserted the retaining pin into the spring clip "V" (make sure the retaining pin is inserted correctly into the "V"), inserted the retaining pin into the retaining pin hole on the hitch (oil first before inserting), then aligned the slightly enlarged hole on the spring clip with the drive screw hole and used a hammer to lightly drive in the drive screw completely. Done!! Clip is a little stiff and hard to pull, but it isn't going to allow my equalizer bar to fall out either......that's for sure! From start to finish, took about 20 minutes to install the one spring clip!! The SPR comes with a 10 year warranty from Husky.

fits my hitch!
had a spring/retainer break and had to drive home that way...well, as may be obvious to some, your torsion bar can fall right out of your hitch and there will be much mayhem. the new parts were very close to the old hitch (undetermined brand) specs, except I am guessing there was too much rust/corrosion in the pin holes so I reused the old retaining pins since the new ones wouldn't move freely, tho I suspect a bit of emery cloth and time would allow them to slide as they should. either way, this was well worth the $13 rather than buying a whole new equalizer hitch.

Speedy and perfect package for mail box.
Speedy delivery. Well made. These are now my spares. When on the road they fail at the worst time. My second spare in 19 years. Not too bad.

Cheap quality nail
Was very unhappy with the item quality. Nail was cheap and came out of hole. Used the other nail and the same did not work at all.

Good parts and good directions.
The replacement parts were great and have held up for a few tows but the original broke after about 3 times towing the camper.
