FloweRock 4LB Black Lava Rock - Pebble (3/8" - 3/4")

I loved the idea of adding lava rock as biomedia in my 125 gallon oscar tank, but I hated the idea of smashing them with a hammer. It would be stupid labor intensive and a real mess! Enter FloweRock Quarter Lava Rock. Sure, its more expensive then going down to the hardware and buying bbq lava rock, but holy gods, how easy is it to rinse and go, just like any other high priced aquarium filter media?One little ding, there was a ton of grit to rinse out. I'm still washing out my wash out bucket as I write this. But seriously, the more biomedia the better for my dirty ol' oscar Pumpkin. This size was tough to find locally, so I was very pleased. Would rather have DRY lava, than lava that is wet with water.

Great product - I have it throughout my yard - but bought these to fill in some spots when the local hardware store was out.... this is not the same bag at the hardware store. It’s only about 1/3 of that bag, but is triple the price. Wouldn’t order again.

What I received wasn't pebbles. They are more like rocks. When I took the picture I was washing and sorting but I got to upset, so I decided to come do a review. In my opinion these so called pebbles are not for an aquarium. Most of the rocks are to large. You will not be able to vacuum properly. I'm hoping I can get enough small ones to cover my 5g tank. Also they are very hard to rinse. I was so excited about them only to be disappointed. I had looked for so long. I wanted a natural gravel or pebble which are hard to find. They want to sale you painted ones.

I purchased this product because the previous gravel in my 5.5 gallon TopFin betta aquarium began to rust and was making my betta ill. I wanted some new gravel that was inert and would look nice in my aquarium. I wanted black gravel, but I didn't want those cheesy-looking black gravels with neon bits in them. This gravel looks natural, and the pores in the lava rocks provide a perfect habitat for beneficial bacteria. I don't suppose it is as easy to clean as smooth black gravel, but my gravel vaccuum still works on it with some patience. This product has been in my aquarium for about a month now, and my betta is thriving.The gravel arrived sooner than expected in a plastic bag in the mail. The packaging was fine. I had to wash the gravel a few times before putting it in my aquarium because it had soil on it. This was not an issue because I would have washed the gravel anyway. I rinsed the gravel in running water then let it sit in hydrogen peroxide for several hours. I'm not sure this was necessary, but I wanted to be safe. Due to the nature of this rock, a lot of fine black sand was also washed off, and some fine lava rock sand continues to erode within my aquarium, but my betta is not bothered by it and neither am I.I'm very pleased with how this gravel looks in my aquarium. Even though it has a rough surface, it does not scratch my betta. It ended up being about 1.5 inches deep in my aquarium, which was perfect. If you have a bigger aquarium, order more gravel.
