A fast, satisfying read.
Hey there book lovers! It is your old pal, Ninetoes, coming at you with a review of J. N. Chaney's Renegade Star. I have coffee in my system, and my thinking cap on, so let's do this! This book has been on my to-be-read list for a long time now. Last night, I decided to try it, and I am glad I did.Jace Hughes is a Renegade pilot, basically a mercenary/pirate who tries to be hard-hearted, but has that "hooker with a heart of gold" vibe. He owes a lot of money to a ganglord, and jobs are few and far between. He takes a job transporting nun and her cargo from point A to point B. Easy peasy, right? Well if it was, this would be a very short read. His problems start when he inquires about the cargo, and when he finds out what the cargo is, his entire universe is upended and he finds himself on the run from a galactic government as well as the earlier mentioned crimelord. Those who oppose him have not taken into account that he will do anything to protect his ship, and its passengers and cargo. ANYTHING.This book moves fast. The kind of read it in one sitting fast. The three hundred pages fly by and before you know it, you are done, and that is a good thing. The writing is sharp, the pace fluid, and the characters enjoyable. I actually cared about what went on with the characters and that drove the story forward. The problem I had is it reminded me too much of a certain series set in a galaxy far far away, as well as a merry band of misfits led by a space cowboy. To me, the book leans heavily on that, but it was not enough to stop me from reading it, and it did not kill the overall enjoyment. Will I continue to read the series? Yes. I plan to read the rest of the (checks notes) fifteen* books in the series. Fifteen? Oh, okay, sure, I plan on reading the rest of the fifteen books in the series!I give this one 4 bookmarks out of 5!* This series is also in a bundle of all sixteen books for $9.99. If you get them on their own they are $4.99 each. I plan on getting the bundle, and I encourage you to do the same.Happy Reading!

An Epic Space 🚀💫🌏 Epic!
Sci-fi Epic of Epic Proportions💫! Sixteen novels in a series are bundled into one huge, all consuming epic of a man's life and those who come into it and make it worth living. Along the way an alien species attacks and tries to destroy humanity. Jace Hughs🐺🚀💫 rises from the poorest of both parents and circumstances, to become a space🚀💫 renegade, and then a Ship Captain🐺🚀💫, then an unlikely savior of humanity🌏. I got this ebook series from Amazon with KU. I read this amazing book of human tenacity with Amazon text to speech, and it took many nights to finish it, but it was well worth it. What I took away was a feeling that humans will never give up fighting for what is right and there is good in all of us. YEA! Unbelievable storytelling by author J. N. Chaney brings Jace's story to life.

So-So
I would consider this book as "just ok." Why is it just ok? Everything about this is one big cliché. The plot, characters, and world building are unoriginal and extremely cliché. The author states he is a fan of cowboy bebop and Trigun, which shows in this book. The writing is very simple. It's less like a book and more like if they took an episode of cowboy bebop or outlaw star (the title and the ship name of another similar anime) and wrote out the dialog to make it into a "book." BTW Outlaw Star.....Renegade Star........ The audio book doesn't always follow what is written, there are word substitutions here and there. The thing I found odd about the audio book was that the narrator gave the main character (MC) an East coast (NYC) type of colloquialism, but earth has been "missing" for a long long time. There wasn't a heavy accent, just seemed like that's where he drew his inspiration or something for the way he conversed. Not a big deal, just found it an interesting choice. That being said just because a story and characters are cliché doesn't mean something is necessarily bad, in fact it's pretty hard to write this kind of story without the characters bring cliché. It's just up to the individual to decide whether that floats your boat or not. I still enjoyed the book to pass the time, it wasn't ridiculously expensive, I may read more when I'm waiting on other books to be released. I gave this three stars because it's nothing that stands out above other similar stories, yet it still was entertaining. Not terrible, but not great.

Just read it
It is easy to read, meaning it is not hard sci-fi, but the characters and plot are very well developed. The kind of book that keeps you longing for more after reading it, and fortunately, there are a few more. And also, recently, the ORION series which I highly recommend.

Comparable to matthew reilly in my eyes
Just finished all the books in the Renegade series so far. Within a week or so (quick reader), Just wanted to say that i have really enjoyed this series and cant wait to tuck into Nameless.Amazing watching how Jace grew from a solo renegade to someone leading practically a army/civilisation.Wonderful writing that had me sneaking moments at work and at home just to read a couple more pages. Matthew Reilly books only tend to do that to me.I feel like i have stolen the books tho reading them via Kindle unlimited so i do plan on purchasing them soon. So i have them permanently. Can't wait for the next one.

Everything for him is against him!
This start of a new series is non stop action. Captain Jace Hughes is a Renegade. He lives in the lawless lands outside of civilisation using his ship, the Renegade Star, to do jobs that a not totally lawful. Unfortunately, work hasn’t been too plentiful recently and he has a LARGE debt falling due to one of the biggest and most ruthless crime lords in known space. Being nowhere close to making the money he needs means that he has to take anything going. In this instance that means escorting a nun to her order’s home planet. But just as things start to go right they go wrong again! Soon Jace finds himself on the run with Abby, the nun; Lex, the little girl that everyone seems to be after; Dr Hitchen, an archeologist with the church, his assistant Octavia and a young monk called Fred. On top of all that his passengers want him to look for the mythical planet Earth and he’s running into baddies whichever way he flies! Good space opera!

Fun romp
While a short book, I've been itching for a space cowboy-ish book for a little while and this scratched that itch. While it's a popcorn literature book, it was well written and really enjoyable.
