Western Herbs according to Traditional Chinese Medicine: A Practitioner's Guide

This is an excellent book, the information on each herb is very informative and thorough. I was, however, hoping to find a larger number of herbs in this book, and unlike other reviewers who commented on the beautiful photos, I found many the photos to be very poor quality (either poor lighting, or bad example of the plant). Nonetheless, I know I will be reaching for this book time and time again, it contains a lot of very valuable information that is not easily found in any other herbal reference book.

This book has been great - as a beginning student of Chinese herbalism who has an interest in local plants, I couldn't have asked for much more. I will note that many of the spp are garden plants, not wild plants, and others are tailored to the SW US. Not a big problem, as most still help me in my Eastern US area, but worth noting so that you know what you're getting. Also, this is NOT a field guide... it could almost be a coffee table fixture!

I have been using western herbs for 3 decades and I am also a TCM student finishing a Master's program.I was honestly a little disappointed in this book. More information and fewer pictures would have been better. I was hoping to have my mind blown with some new perspective, but the manner with which the author applied TCM theory to western herbs was really not surprising. Beautiful photos. Lacking in content.How could the author have not included Pau d'Arco (among many others)?!

As an acupuncturist/TCM practitioner, I have a number of patients that will come in already using Western herbs. Although I do have a number of reference texts discussing various Western herbs from the perspective of TCM, this is among the most up to date texts available. Although not exhaustive, it does discuss the most widely used herbs; and I highly recommend it to the library of any acupuncturist/TCM practitioner.

I would recommend this seller and love the book. The contents are written so that any one can follow. It was just like new- great condition.

Well researched and fine presentation. With a solid grasp of Chinese medicine and much hands-on practical experience under his belt, practitioners will find this book extremely useful.

If you like the idea of using native medicinal plants, this book is worth your money. Its very complete and well done

An excellent book. Goes into depth on many herbs and shows how western herbs can fit into the Chinese medical paradigm..

I would have given it 5 stars had it included more herbs.
