Salsbury Industries4850WHT Heavy Duty Rural Mailbox

-heavy, large, & some issues. -heavy duty is good, large is good. -mounting is a challenge (for us)... -this box is shown in the instructions mounted to a single 4 x 4 post with a metal plate mounted to the top of a single 4 x 4... not our situation,... and where is that plate? -in fact, the instructions mention all sorts of hardware, and even says to throw out what we didn't need... yeah, too bad none comes with it! -all you get is the box itself. -now I have to make a mounting plate (this box will not sit flat on a 4 x 4, there is a 10 mm inset to the bottom surface all the way around) to mount it to, so that I can mount that to our horizontal 4 x 4 post. -or I may notch the rear of the box to accept the post. -I am shocked that there is no provision for our set-up as it is the most common that I see. -i'll make it work, but just so you know, look on mailboxs.com to see proper mounting, and the accessories for this box.-the only other let down was several small blemishes in the powder coat, and a few quality/fit issues (mostly metal not sanded before being powder coated)... nothing major, but at this price point I would expect a more finished product. -when I pay big money for a US made product, I expect US pride to shine!-oh, one more thing... this box says mailboxes.com and their 1 800 # all over it,... one removable sticker in the door, but on the flag, and on the back it's cast in, so you can't remove it... free advertising I guess, I don't mind the name so much but I have a 1-800 # on my mailbox flag,... not what I wanted :(...a year later, I'm editing, and giving this box another star. it still looks, and functions great. it's a good mailbox, great, large size. I had to notch out the base in the back to mount it to the 4x4 base, and I added a piece of electrical tape to the magnetic plate so the magnet would let go easier... but, all in all it's a great mailbox, couldn't be happier!

Wow! This is the real thing. I've had mail boxes my entire life but this one is by far the best built unit I have ever had. It is very heavy duty as you will find out the first time you pick it up. The moving parts, the door and flag, are clearly build to last out of heavy duty metal parts that make all my past mail boxes seem very flimsy. I have had cars hit my mail box and pumpkins used to smash them, but this one I am guessing will survive most anything. I bought the newspaper box with it and they fit together tightly. I did not by the brace to mount it on my post but improvised and got it attached with not problem. Ideally I would have like having the mounting for the post because of the quality of the product.I don't think I will ever need to paint this due to the quality of the finish, I am super pleased with this product.

I like it!!! It has a quality feel and there are several ways to mount it that give a very sturdy result. If you are not planning on using one of the standard mailbox posts, it helps if you are an experienced DIYer but even if you are not, mounting this mailbox is not rocket science. The magnet is a nice touch, as is the handle on the door.We have had some rain since I installed it but no torrential downpours, so even though it has stayed dry inside so far, it hasn't been subjected to any extreme rains.With the caveat that I have only had it for a week, I would buy again and recommend it. If I experience anything to change this review I will update.

A bit pricey but made in USA and very solid! Should be lifetime mailbox! Attached box to wooded mail post arm using t30 3 1/2" by 5/16" exterior construction bolts.

Disappointed mailbox didn’t come with screws

My new mailbox from Salsbury Industries has a classic, yet vintage appearance. It is very well built and quite durable. It has a large capacity for several pieces of mail. A strong magnet keeps the door closed, while maintaining a perfectly dry enclosure, even in the worst storm. My mail carrier said, "I wish more houses had a mailbox like your's, it is so difficult to shove mail into small mailboxes or slots in doors." Thank you Amazon for having such a great selection of quality merchandise from fantastic suppliers. Thankfully, JC

Such a cute mailbox. Heavy duty, large, well made. I love that there is a magnet that holds the door closed. The reason I replaced my mailbox was because you had to jam the door to get it to stay. The only problem with the white is how fast it looks dirty. After it rains it looks so dirty. I was disappointed because it didn't come with numbers to stick on, that would have been nice.

Too much

This is an expensive rural mailbox, however, it is strong and durable. We usually have to replace our mailbox every 2 years because of snow plows and vandalism. So far this one seems much stronger than standard mailboxes.
