This paper is great for allowing many layers to be painted. It's also wonderfully smooth for painting fine details on.

I love the pack of sheets form. I can tuck a couple sheets into a folder or take the whole pack along. The plastic sleeve is surprisingly durable. Great cotton fiber paper and it's hot press which is perfect for my pen sketches. I've gone through quite a few packs.

I would have given this 5 stars save for the fact that for some odd reason Strathmore seems to have changed it's gesso mixture in the paper recently. The gesso in this paper seems to have a slight slickness to it (i.e. varnish) that makes it difficult to use pencils on. It is not enough to switch brands but the difference is notable if you are used to making detailed indications with a sharp pencil. Overall I still continue to use it; the paper is flexible but very strong and hard to warp. Even after some warping you can smooth out most waviness by placing it in a pillow case and ironing it. The paper is expensive but as of yet, I have not found anything else that works as well. The price is high considering you can buy it in Hobby Lobby or Michael's for less, but it's nice that Amazon carries it- especially in a crunch.
