Building Confidence, One Line of Code at a Time!
I purchased this wonderful book for my 11 year old son. He has had a tiny bit of exposure to Java coding for Minecraft during summer camp.He was a bit apprehensive at first, but after skimming the book, and placing some post-it notes on the projects he wanted to try, he decided to be 'brave' and dive in.45 minutes later, he was delighted at how easy the instructions were to follow, and he was successful in every attempt he made with the programs. I was thrilled to see the big smile on his face!He really liked how the programs 'correct' you when entering lines of code, if you have done it incorrectly. He said that saves a lot of time and helped him ultimately be more successful with the projects. What a nice way to get introduced to coding, something that I have no interest in. I feel guilty to write that, but I'm more at home with painting, hiking, or reading a great book. This is a world that my children love, and I'm happy I found a book that helps them.

Unexpected content, but well worth a look
I stumbled on this book on Amazon, and like a lot of other people assumed it would be about Scratch, Python or some other kid friendly language. It was a little surprising that Ms.McCue decided to concentrate on MicroWorlds EX since it is a little off the beaten track, but I actually think it was a good choice. My first exposure to the Logo language was in the 1990's (it was first released way back in 1967!) and it was fun to revisit it in its expanded form as part of MicroWorlds. Some people object to having to pay for it ($29.00 once you have the book), but I think it is well worth the price. Ms. McCue is quite knowledgeable and the book is clear and very well written. If you're looking for a beginning programming book for kids (or even 70 year old adults like me), Coding for Kids (using MicroWorlds) takes a different approach to programming that you might find intriguing.

Kids started trying to use right away they were so excited.
I'm excited for my son to use it, but somehow didn't realize that it will require us to buy a software license for continued use. To get started there is a 35 day/90 save Trial. After that, you have to buy a license for MicroWorld EX, which is the programming software that the lessons are based in. It looks like if you buy it right away, you can get the software download for $30, but if you wait too long, it will be as much as $99. We are waiting for our trial activation link to be sent so I can't speak to how it will all work out, but the book/lessons look great at first glance.

Excelled starter for Kids.
An excellent first step for younger to get started with. My 12 yr old was "interested" in learning Code before this book. Now, she's consumed with anything Code.

Who says us old kids can't learn Coding!
I like this book! My great grand daughter who is in the fourth grade and did game coding during summer break in her school camp. She wanted me to learn about coding so we could discuss the subject when she is over at our house one day every week. I have really just started and am on project #2, Golf Course which is turning out to be a fun project, surprising enough I am learning to do it! :-) Great stuff, this coding. Thank you Camille for writing this book to help us old kids so we can stay, some what, up with our younger family members.Ted Atmore

This book is excellent for helping young people learn to write code
This book is excellent for helping young people learn to write code. While most children know how to play video games and do lots of activities on a computer, actually learning to writethe code that makes the games run is most beneficial. The process involved in learning to write code is directly related to critical thinking in mathematics and logical thinking in many areas. Two of my grandsons have found this to be very helpful, fun to make games and challengingto invent new activities.

additional subscription book. beware of trialware software to learn by
Paid for advertisement for subscription software. But to can get it free for I believe 90 days, which if you run through the book to can get competed. But then again it teaches you how to use paid for software and not actual programming itself. Returning and going the non sponsored product book.

Deceiving
When I purchased this book, the description never said that I had to buy the computer program for it. They offer a free partial program fo 30 days but my kid can't get through the book in 30 days, so I have to spend $30 more to be able to use the book.

Not as easy as you think
It was a little hard for kids to understand imo, also it’s geared towards pc’s not Macs
