A great consumer grade lock
This lock is great in a home setting for one simple fact: The door will *ALWAYS* be automatically locked, every single time you go in or out, without having to remember to lock it, and most importantly, without worry that you'll be locked out! The most important rule of security is to ALWAYS KEEP THE DOOR LOCKED. The most secure lock in the world does no good if you don't actually lock it, and this lock covers that most important first rule of security!Of course you can also flip the lever on the inside, and it'll stay unlocked, if you want to leave your door unlocked for any reason. (maybe you're having a party, with lots of people coming and going, for example)You can add several codes, and this is good for a family with children, because they can all have their own code, and they are never ever locked out of the house. We've found it's important to give each child their own code, so when their friends see (or they tell them) it can be changed. They quickly learn to be more careful after they have to memorize a new code. Programming only takes a minute, to add or remove each code. The push buttons give good tactile feedback, and it also beeps to let you know it registered your key press. It only takes a few seconds to unlock, the buttons are backlit, and it will light up at night if needed (by feel alone, you can press the big top button to turn the internal keypad lights on). It will blink red and "lock you out" for a minute if you try too many failed attempts, to prevent someone from just trying/guessing combinations until they get in.The only drawback I've found is that the buttons are close together, so when it's -20F, I find that it's hard to use with large, thick fat-fingered gloves, but taking a glove off for the 1-2 seconds it takes to unlock it, when you're going inside (where you'll take the glove off anyway!) isn't a show stopper. It's got a manual key override, so you can carry a normal key to over ride it in the event that the batteries go dead, or the electronics fail for any reason. I've only been using these locks for about 3+ years, and in that time, I've never had to change a battery yet, so I don't know how long the battery (a single 9V type) lasts.I've used this lock (or one in other various colors) on multiple homes, garages, out buildings, and even a garden shed. Installation takes about 10-20 minutes, depending on the door, but it's no harder than installing any other lock. If you already have Schlage locks on your door, you can probably use the same strike, and strike plate that is already in your door/door frame. In that case, it's really quick, probably 5 minutes. Just take the screws out of your old lock and remove, adjust the "hands free" plastic mount plate, route the battery wire, put the lock on, (hand free plate holds it in place, but you still might want enlist another set of hands to hold the lock for you) tighten two screws, maybe swap the handles (for right/left swing doors) program (fairly easy with great included instructions) and you're done.

Useful for dealing with dementia
I just installed this today, so I can't speak for battery life or longevity as of yet. I did use the included battery, which is just a regular 9V Duracell, so when that needs replacing I'll install a lithium one instead. The install was quite straight-forward and, aside from a few extra steps, was not really any more difficult than installing a standard door knob. Instructions were simple, though a few of the pictures left me momentarily confused. The lock is easy to program and use and all the features worked as expected. The programmable codes are limited to four digits, which was not an issue for me. It seems pretty well constructed. This door knob was installed on our garage door to stop my dad, who has fairly advanced dementia, from sneaking out of the house. Since people need to be able to use that door from either side, using something like a door guardian lock would not have worked. I installed the door knob backwards, so the keypad is on the inside of the house and it will keep him from entering the garage unsupervised. This method wouldn't work on an exterior door (it only locks on one side), but works fantastic for keeping him out of the garage while still making it easy to bring groceries and such into the house. The auto lock is timed just right and seems to work well. I had no issues disabling the lock while testing everything either.I'd definitely recommend this if you're trying to keep someone with dementia from passing through an interior door.

Just what I was looking for all these years
Love this lock! Reasonably priced, elegant finish with durable coating, super easy to install (make sure the setscrew for the retaining plate adequately protrudes), beeps are just the right volume, soft non-slip keys that illuminate, easy programming, solid construction, easy battery replacement (yeah, I know you have to remove the inside face plate with handle but it's still only two screws).I've been wanting one of these keyless locks for years but didn't like the restriction of having to enter via the keypad EVERY TIME. This lock solved that issue by having a bypass knob for times when I'm frequently entering and exiting and don't want to physically jam up the self closing door. It's so much easier to open the door with a lever vs. a round knob, especially when your hands are full with bags, a basket or a reluctant Scottish Terrier being carried to his bath. One thing to keep in mind. This lock, like all locks with a bolt of this type are not intended to be the ONLY lock when security is of the utmost importance. If you're looking for such security, I would advise complementing this lock with a keypad deadbolt using (2) 3" long screws on the strike plate. And NO!, I don't own stock in or have any financial interests in SCHLAGE or their parent company INGERSOLL RAND.If you're confused on how this lock can be either left-hand or right-hand, you're not alone. The photos are misleading. It shows two handles that are IDENTICAL, They are NOT! The handles you'll be receiving are mirror image parts. Swap handles (inside with outside) as needed. Now it makes sense!Update: It's been 4 years since I installed this lock and only now does it require battery replacement. WOW! There wasn't much warning so I would advise keeping the key for overriding the lock in a spot that you're not going to forget every 3 years or so. Interior override knob does not work when the battery is low.
