Vegetable Dyes: A Book of Recipes and Information Useful to the Dyer

Good to underpin your other dyeing books
I'm really pleased that I bought this book. I wouldn't recommend it for dyers who are just starting out because it's a historical text and a bit fusty for a practical guide. Instead I would recommend Kristin Vejar's Modern Natural Dyer. But I would recommend this book to someone like myself who has spent a few months working with natural dyes, harvesting plants, and experimenting because you'll then have the foundational knowledge to understand what the author saying. One of my favorite things about the book is the author's honesty about how difficult it is to harvest or make certain colors like red. It helped me to feel like I was on the right track about several colors and I learned more about processing wool as well.

It is a wonderful book for the history of dyes and dying
This is the second book I have bought this is for our local Guild of Weavers Spinners and Dyers. It is a wonderful book for the history of dyes and dying. PLEASE remember that many of the chemicals used in the recipes have to be disposed of professionally and cost lots!! Also many of the lichens are rare now and are not to be collected from the wild. Having said that many of the normal recipes are of use and used in conjunction with Jenny Dean's books can be used.

All of the above reviews
Yes excellent book. But not for the beginner, will keep it and maybe when I have a little understanding of dyes and dyeing it maybe of some use.
