Do your homework.
Ok so I blame myself for not doing the research. I gave a four star because it is what I paid for. As it is titled, it's split leather, NOT top grain. I haven't a clue what I'm going to do with this leather. And I need to buy what I was originally after. Again, totally my fault so I'm not going to bad mouth the seller, but do your research people. Don't be like me.

Even though I cant make a nice looking holster
To start off, I ordered the wrong thing (pro tip: read item descriptions). I thought I ordered the regular tooling leather so I could start making holsters but I ordered this, not knowing what the split was. Even though I cant make a nice looking holster, I now have plenty of good material to practice with. I would recommend purchasing this for beginners to practice cutting, stitching, etc.

The leather was lighter than I desired, and has a few spots where pinpoints of daylight can be seen, but they were not in a critical area so I was not forced to return it.

unsurpassed value
I am surprised at how great a value this is. You don't realize how big a piece this is until you unroll this thing. With what I paid for I will usually only get two pair of moccasins. This piece will easily net 3 maybe 4. I'll get a couple of knife sheath out of it too. Consistent thickness, color, and surface. Easily one of my best finds this year. You've gained an eager customer.

Split leather as advertised.
Like many others I didn’t read this is a split leather. It’s large and after some 400grit sanding it’s pretty smooth and resolene sealed it up nicely. It has a great rustic look now.

Good for book marks.
If you are looking for tooling leather, look someplace else.Light weight- 3-4 oz maybe.Doesn't dye well.

Great for the Price
I'm new to working with leather, so I don't have much to compare this too. But I'm very happy with it. I used it to make a couple bracers and am working on a sword baldric right now. Consistent thickness and I've been able to dye it easily with the dyes I bought. All in all, great product, great price.
