Awesome Biblically based game!!
This is a whole family game. While you might need to help the very young I think all kids who can listen to The Word will enjoy this game. Here are some of the things that stood out:1. Casting Lots - The game comes with four sticks and two stones and a board with two sides on it. In the Bible it is referenced repeatedly about casting lots. The sticks can be used on one side of the board and the stones on the other. The sticks side has Roman numerals I, II and III. Where ever the marked end of the sticks land is the number you move on the board. OR. You can use the stones and cast them on the board which has regular numbers on them. Pick one or the other at the beginning of the game.2. Blessing and Penalty Cards - Get these when you land on their space. Kinda like Community Chest or Chance in Monopoly. These things are FUNNY. The punishments range from giving up Angel cards, to moving forward or back a certain number of spaces or makes you play the game backwards until you get another Blessing card with new instructions. Some of the penalties can be voided by reading from Scripture as well. What child doesn't want to read Scripture instead of missing a turn or going back spaces? My 10 year old LOVES these cards.3. Angel and Archangel Cards - If you want to get past the gates to The Promised Land (OT) or The Crown of Righteousness you will need to have 3 Angel Cards and an Archangel card. You gain or lose them depending on the Penalty or Blessing cards you get.4. Vision book - Certain spaces called Crown Spaces will have a Vision listed on it. You will refer to the Vision book on these spaces and it has stories from the Old Testament along with corresponding questions and answers. The person landing on the space is the reader. You read the Vision aloud and then you have three questions you can ask. You can have anyone answer or pick a specific person. If the person answering gets it right then they move ahead on the board and if they get it wrong then you the reader moves ahead on the board.NOTE: As a personal observation and suggestion if you have younger children appoint an adult to be the reader and ask the question to the child landing on the space.5. Scripture References - The board, Vision book , Penalty and Blessing cards all have Scripture references on them (ex. John 3:16). More than once we have landed on a space and read the spaces description and then went and looked up the corresponding Scripture.Differences between the Old and New Testament Versions. Really this comes down to the Books of The Bible. Events mentioned and read about are from Old or New, but game play is very specific. The one major difference is the Sword spaces. If you land on these you have to give two Angel cards to each player and if you do not have enough you wind up having to play backwards for a bit. The Old Testament version doesn't have a space like this.We have both the Old and New Testament versions of this game. We got the Old Testament first and when we found out there was a New Testament everyone wanted it too and we got it.This game is not a slow game either. It seems to move really quick even with three people. I think the longest we played on one game was 30 minutes. Now, we have played longer, but that was because our son wanted to play it again and it was game night.I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys and loves The Bible or may be wanting to learn.
