Ekena Millwork CM18DI Diane Ceiling Medallion, 18"OD x 3 5/8"ID x 1 1/8"P, Factory Primed

We purchased this medallion to cover a hole that was left when removing an older chandelier from a plaster ceiling. This was wide enough that we had plenty of room to liquid nail it to the ceiling. It is thin enough that we didn't need to change out the mounting screws. It was light enough that I was able to put some fast-drying adhesive on the back, and hold it up there with my arms over my head for ten minutes while it stuck to the ceiling. We then installed the light fixture which held it in place while the adhesive we applied cured on and calked the edges. From the floor, it sort of disappears into the ceiling above the chandelier and looks like it's been there forever. It accepted paint very well, no real touch ups or spackle necessary for us.

This medallion didn’t have any flaws as it was packaged well. It was easy to paint and install. It added a nice touch for the new chandelier.

I have to scratch my head at some of the reviews. This is foam and light weight, but you may need to do a little more than just slap some glue on it to make it "stick". You may need to perform some minor sanding as one of the three I have had some primer splatter. The center hole may need to be adjusted for the electric box you are using. The medallion may not be 100% flat and thus may need some attention to get it flat to the ceiling.In addition to latex caulk, I add either finish nails (shot in at V formations) or use a couple of drywall screws to secure them flat to the ceiling. I then clean up the holes with drywall mud and caulk until the holes are no longer seen and the surface is even. After a coat of paint, its good to go.I do have another brand medallion that is made of plastic. That went up with latex caulk as the glue and did not need anything else. It is more plain than this brand and why I only used that one in one room.

Great product and I will buy it again, I gave 4 stars because of the expensive price.

The quality is much better than the ones I found in big box stores. This is the primed version so the price was more reasonable than the finished ones.

We had to remove our old medallion, and needed another one too take place because the ceiling was messed up. This one is a great price, and is modern, but still classic. It was easy to install.

Received an item that has already been used. Instead of returning it I decided to attempt to paint over the imperfections. After applying paint and letting it dry the styrofoam reacted poorly to the paint and left bubbles and dents in places thus making it useless. Save your money.

The product itself is just what I wanted. The reason for only 3 stars is it arrived slightly damaged: there were some "bite marks" around the edge, possibly left by sorting machinery. There was no damage to the plastic bag it was wrapped in or to the box, so it looks like it was put in the bag that way. Poor quality control, should not have gone out like that. Rather than hassling with a return, I repaired it with some spackling. Apparently another reviewer experienced the same problem. Ekena Millwork, please upgrade your quality control.You will probably reduce your customer return rate as well!

The moulding added a chic and elegant upgrade to our entryway light fixture. Easy to install, not heavy and well made. Happy with the purchase. We've had it for a year now.

As expected

i wanted a medallion to finish my simple dining room chandelier without it looking too fussy and this one suited me well. It is very light but not flimsy. It was very easy to install although I did need to buy a longer lighting nipple for the chandelier to allow for the added thickness but that was easy to change. I had planned to caulk the edges but in the end decided it wasn't needed and I am very pleased with the final look of it.

Used this to replace some old fashioned plaster work around my dinning room light. Installed electrical extension box for the light. Had to trim the opening in the medallion, then installed it with simple painters caulk. Used two scrap pieces of shim (by drilling holes for the extension box bolts) to hold it up until the caulk set. Painted it and it looks 1000% better than the old design and more modern.

Made of styrofoam so it’s lightweight, but very solid. I was a little anxious at first that it would break easily or not hold up, but it worked very well. I was able to customize its back in order to place it over some lathing. I was going to paint it but in the end liked it white, tho I may do so in the future. Also my standard fan base fit the hole perfectly. Very satisfied!
