Classic
We bought 4 books from Kenneth Thomasma years ago when I was home schooling my boys. They are great read aloud books--they are now reading them to their children.

My granddaughter loved this!
We traveled through South Dakota, stopping at Mount Rushmore. We found a book about Native Americans, suitable for young readers. My granddaughter asked for more books on this theme, so I looked online and found several by this author. I ordered many and she was delighted! Thanks for writing such interesting tales of Native American children. We now own many of your books ;-)

The Best Indian Book You Can Read
I thought this was a very good book. I enjoyed the story because it was breath taking and historical fiction. Even though, not all of the characters were real, this event really took place. This book is about an Indian band who is living peacefully in their valley. But one day, they are made to move out because the white people want to build roads and farms on their land. The Nez Perce tribe is forced to move on a reservation, but instead of going there, they set out on a journey to Canada. Soun, the main character, is an Indian boy who cannot speak because of a shock when he is young. Soun is the main helper. He helps herd the horses. I encourage you to read this book to find out if Soun ever speaks again. It is a history helper and is good to realize what happened back then to real Indian tribes.

Soun Tetoken
An interesting look into the life of an imaginative Nez Perce indian child ( Soun Tetoken ) but placed into the actual history of the time. The story begins with a look into the young childs life as a young indian living in and among the most beautiful countryside, as a mute he forms special bonds with his stallion Sunburst and his faithful coyote Dusty. Soon this idealic lifestyle comes to an end with the white man wanting more and more of their land and the slow progress towards the inevitable war between the two, the outcome is based on true accounts of the period, a well written book and a good read for any age.
