The Mystery Mansion: Storytelling Card Game

A delightful new installment in the almost 200 year history of Myrioramas, with great solo or group play value.
Very satisfactory on first exploration, and seems quite likely to grow in my esteem as I spend more time with it. As expected from the card images previously available on the publisher's website, it is very reminiscent of John C. Ralston's delightful Polyoramas, with the venue resembling that of his Polyorama Set II, "The Myriotel," inhabited with interesting characters along the lines of his Polyorama Set I. Those sets kept making me recall the wonderful 1961 film "Last Year at Marienbad" ("L'Année dernière à Marienbad"), and I suspect that will carry over to this set of cards as well. There is, of course, also at least a soupçon of the aura of the Clue (Cluedo) board game, exploring completely different aspects of perhaps a similar situation in comparable mansion or British country house. Little or no relationship in art or play, but happy associations. I might have preferred the art to be a little snappier, with a little less overwhelming a bland pinkness, but I think it will not be distracting in actual play. A great followup to The Hollow Woods: Storytelling Card Game , and quite likely to be found to even be an improvement. Consider the game descriptions to be suggestions, a starting point for developing your own variations. Highly recommended.

What an odd little game.
Okay. This is a weird game. You get a bunch of picture cards and a couple of vague instructions for “games”. That being said, with a bunch of creative people (or drunk people, let’s admit it) this is hysterical. We ditched the guide almost immediately and started with a card in the middle and built a story out both ways, we started at the end and worked backwards, and we started at the beginning and went on until we got to the end and then stopped. It’s pretty fun when you get started. If you are into winning, this is not for you. We, however, need an expansion pack.

Less imaginative.
I have the hollow woods game and the scify storytelling game by the same company which I both love. This game leaves less to the imagination the cards have to many details that make it hard to interperet differently. We did find that it was easier to jump back in forth in the story telling in time and have certian cards happen in the past tense

Interesting and inspiring
High quality hard paper cards, the illustration is great, each picture is with a lot of details, and it is really interesting and inspiring to play it with others as well as play it by oneself.

Cards are beautifully illustrated
Beautifully illustrated cards. Have yet to play the game. Couldn't find a clip on Youtube that would do the game justice.

Superbe coffret.
