Tales that changed their lives
Recollections by top travel writers of trips that changed them early on in their writing careers make a pleasant read. Tim Cahill remains my favorite of the travel writing darlings of our day. He always imparts good information while making me smile. No slacker, Pico Iyer can be counted on for an informed story with a literary flare. Larry Haebegger’s Face You’ll Never Forget is a model of the crisply written travel story and why not, he is the publisher of the esteemed Traveler’s Tales. Tony Wheeler’s remembrance of week camping naked in Yugoslavia reminded me of my time in Martinique where the beach was littered with French families in their birthday suits. I’m sure you will find a story among these 35 choices to enjoy.

Great concept, fun read.
Great concept, fun read. I don't know who most of the authors are and have to look them up to help with context but I like the short story format and the different aspects to travel they reveal. The author says most travel falls into about 5 different categories and the more I've read, the more I agree. A great book to take while traveling because you can put it down and pick it up later.

Best short travel stories.
I really enjoy John Berendt so I figured his choices for these short stories written by travel writers would be good. It was GREAT! Love to read about other people's travels ups and downs. It is an easy read and I couldn't put it down.,

Some good stories, some boring stories
Some good stories, some boring stories. I'm sure all stories have importance in the lives of the authors but they don't necessarily translate well to the reader.

I don't understand why people would take such great risks - those stories astounded me
not inspiring at all. it is not travel so much as who you meet or incidents that occur that are interesting. I was impressed by the re-action to traveling through the desert as I have experienced the same feeling of awe at various places around the world but the feeling is very hard to share.I don't understand why people would take such great risks - those stories astounded me.

Entretenido
Algunas historias me han gustado, por supuesto, más que otras, pero en general es un libro entretenido que me ha descubierto las colecciones de libros de Lonely Planet. Por eso ya he pedido otro, By the seat of my pants : And Other Funny Travel Stories. Creo que este libro me gustará más que el anterior, por el toque de humor.
