Great for early chapter book readers
I was looking for something to read to my 7 year old daughter and 3 year old son. I wanted something gender neutral (I wanted to avoid Princess books). This book was great. This is the second book in Dragon Masters Series. It has easy to follow storyline, so even if you skip the first book and start with this one, you (or your kids) will be able to follow the story, but I recommend starting with the first book.My kids loved the series and asked to read more than 3 chapters a night. This is one of the Scholastic Branches series books. Branches series were written for early chapter book readers. There are two levels: first level is with color pictures and lower Lexile (According to Scholastic website, for ages 5-7, 80 page full color Branches series are: Boris by Andrew Joyner, Kung Pow Chicken by Cindi Marko, Missy's Super Duper Royal Deluxe by Susan Nees, Owl Diaries by Rebecca Elliott, Princess Pink and the Land of Fake-Believe by Noah Z Jones), second level is black and white with a bit higher Lexile (according to Scholastic Website, for ages 6-8, 96 page, black and white Branches series are: The amazing stardust friends by Heather Alexander Illustrated by Diane Le Feyer, Dragon Masters by Tracy West Illustrated by Graham Howells, Eerie Elementary by Jack Chabert Illustrated by Sam Ricks, Looniverse by David Lubar Illustrated by Matt Loveridge, Lotus Lane by Kyla May, Monkey Me by Timothy Roland, and the Notebook of Doom by Troy Cummings) . This Dragon Master series falls onto the second level. My daughter enjoyed Eerie Elementary series (took 45-60 min to read per book) and The Notebook of Doom (took 45-60 min to read per book). Branches series have easy to follow story lines and attractive illustrations (black and white for second level) and I highly recommend them.

Great series... Well done!
My 6 year old son loves these books! We purchased the first one in the series at his schools book fair. I was a little worried it might be too advance for him since he is only in Kindergarten. We read a few chapters each night and finished it much quicker than I expected. I ordered this one and we got through it quickly too. He really enjoyed hearing about the different dragons and all the Dragon Masters. He was very engrossed in the plot and loved the suspense of it all. He also loved to look at the illustrations and talk about the characters. We even ended up doing his first reading fair project about the first book. I got to draw all the dragons and characters for him! We are really excited for the third book to come out and are eagerly waiting to order it. If you have a younger child who likes dragons, I highly recommend this series. It is a fun and adventurous read. Well done!

Cliff Hangers
My students enjoy this series of books as a read aloud. At the end of each chapter, there is a little cliff hanger and it leaves students wanting more!

The Dragon Masters Return with Another Adventure ...
The second book in the Dragon Master series, “Saving the Sun Dragon”, continues the story begun in “Rise of the Earth Dragon”. It is also a chapter book that will engage new readers. It can be an enjoyable read-aloud for pre-schoolers and kindergarteners who have advanced beyond Little Golden Books. Tracey West has written a book that has magic dragons; features multi-ethnic children learning to become Dragon Masters; Griffith, a wizard, complete with a long, flowing white beard, who is the Dragon Masters’ instructor; and King Roland who may have nefarious plans for the dragons and the Dragon Masters. When Ana’s dragon Kepri becomes ill, King Roland orders Griffith to heal Kepri. If he cannot, Roland will replace Griffith with another wizard. The young Dragon Masters – Drake, Ana, Bo, and Rori – help Griffith search through a “giant pile of books” as they seek a cure. Transported to a faraway land, the Dragon Masters encounter Heru and his dragon Wati who is Kepri’s Moon Dragon twin. Attacked by tomb robbers, their adventure takes a dangerous turn; with the dragons’ help, they escape. Telling Wati that he, too, is a Dragon Master, he then tells the four that he and his family serve the dragons rather than being the dragons’ masters. The four Dragon Masters and a healed Kepri return to King Roland’s castle just in time to prevent Griffith’s being replaced.“Saving the Sun Dragon” is an easy to read book. Chapters are brief, the vocabulary is not particularly sophisticated or difficult, and sentences are simple and short. The subject matter will interest young boys who may find some early reader books “boring”. There is magic and action, and there are mythical creatures that will engage children. Graham Howells’ black and white illustrations are on almost every page. This feature is a something I appreciate since my five-year old grandson has advanced to having chapter books read aloud to him at bedtime, but still wants pictures included with the story. If you are looking for a series of books that will interest early readers, particularly boys, you will want to look at the Dragon Master series. It is not necessary to have read “Rise of the Earth Dragon” to enjoy “Saving the Sun Dragon”. Tracey West provides enough background information in this second book of the series to allow it to be enjoyed independent of “Rise of the Earth Dragon”. However, if your young reader or listener is anything like my grandson, you will not only want the first two books of the series, but will pre-order the others!

Our kids LOVE the Dragon Master's book series
We needed a good "first chapter" series with lots of pictures as for bedtime routine as picture books just became rather expensive. So I searched the internet and came across the recommendation for Scholastic's Dragon Masters book series. They LOVE all the characters/dragons in the books and love guessing what each person can do and what powers the dragons have.Whenever possible we use the Kindle edition and broadcast it to our TV via our Amazon Firebox (via wireless projection) so that everyone can see the text and the pictures. Unfortunately not all the books are available for Amazon Kindle, so some books we had to buy as hard paper and we are running out of space in our bookshelves as we have sooo many books, so we prefer electronic copies. Electronic copies also allow us to share it onto their Amazon Fire tablets for kids.Again, LOVED by all of our kids and we have different ages and grasp of the world. Unfortuantely we have read ALL the books available and now have to wait until March 2021 until the next book comes out.
