Celtic Tapestry: Piano Collection

This collection of piano solos arranged by Joseph Martin is very nice. I particularly love Londonderry Air(Danny Boy), because it’s so beautiful. Two other familiar songs are Morning Has Broken and Variations on Ash Grove. The others are unfamiliar to me but very interesting and melodic. I would say the difficulty ranges from high intermediate to advanced skills.

It is so wonderful that Charles Martin has made available the piano music for his compositions! He has a real gift for melody, and his compositions are deeply textured. I find them very interesting and surprising, as his compositions never follow a simple melody, but dance all over it, intertwining it in different ways. I have all four of his piano books, and find the scores fairly easy to play if you are an advanced student. Some of the fingering is a little complex to play as fast as the notes are written, and some of the reaches are a little daunting for someone with small hands (like me!), but these songs are well worth the work! Highly recommended! Also, get the spital bound books if at all possible, since turning the conventional bound scores are much harder.

As a lover of Celtic music, I can say that this book is the most beautiful composition of Celtic music I've ever encountered. Joseph Martin is a genius composer, and his compositions are richly textured and completely mesmerizing. The difficulty level is probably high intermediate/advanced, but well worth the effort! I wish there were more than 4 books from this composer!

Joseph Martin and I studied with the same college teacher. Joseph is a fabulous pianist. Nothing he writes is easy, but it is worth the effort to learn his arrangements. All the pieces are beautiful. Many are suitable for church services.

These arrangements are stunning. I love Variations on "Ash Grove", "Danny Boy", "Be Thou My Vision", and "Brother James Air". They are a challenge to play, and sound so rich and full.

A fantastic musical experience. This is a great collection of arrangements for those who love piano music.
