Hella Bitters products are Hella Great!!!
This was my husbands favorite gift this year for Christmas! He loves the packaging, the design of the individual pieces and the overall look. The equipment is of great quality and we would definitely recommend it for either a first timer to bitters making or the experienced bartender (like my hubby)

HORRIBLE DISSAPOINTMENT
This item arrived a wreck. The box is torn apart, the funnel poorly made an rusted. I'm truly disappointed, as I felt the box itself could be gift wrapped for Christmas. Now, I can't return it. Super de duper.

Fun But Ultimately Disappointing
I received this as a Christmas gift from my wife and I have to say it's a great idea in theory but in execution there are real problems. What you get: Two jars that are essentially very small mason jars with screw-on lids (these are for steeping the bitters) four eyedropper bottles (for holding and dispensing the finished bitters), one container of "aromatic" bitter spices, one container of citrus bitter spices, one strainer and one funnel that are "milled" to fit together so that you can strain your finished bitters from the jars and into the dropper bottles. The funnel and strainer do fit together very well and that is a very nice feature when trying to filter off the sediment from the bitters. The good news is that the kit makes some tasty-ish bitters and if you're into bitters and cocktails, this will be fun for you. But there's a lot of bad news to go with the good.First, the spice blends you are given are enough to make one batch of the aromatic and one batch of the citrus. The kit touts all the possible variations you can make, but they don't give you enough spices to make a "standard" batch and to also do any experimentation on your own. If there is a way to order more spice blends, they don't make it easy to find and I have yet to see it. Or, in the alternative, they could at least include a base recipe I could use to make my own spice blend and suggest some alternatives.Second, the eyedropper bottles are really small. They give you four bottles, supposedly so that you can make a bottle for you to keep for yourself and one to give as a gift. The problem is that just ONE of the jars produces more than enough bitters to overfill all four of the eyedropper bottles. So what am I supposed to do with the extra bitters in my jar, since I can't put them in any of the dropper bottles? Well, the kit says that I should put them in "another container." That's not very elegant and is, in fact, kinda stupid. Why don't you guys figure out how much liquid the jars will hold and either make the dropper bottles big enough to hold that or include enough dropper bottles to hold all that volume?Third, although the funnel and the strainer fit together perfectly, the eyedropper bottles are so small that it is difficult to fill them from the jars (which do not have any kind of pouring lip or spout) without almost immediately overfilling them and spilling finished bitters while trying to transfer them. I admit that a certain portion of this may be user error, but I maintain that bigger dropper bottles would make this process much easier. So, to sum up, this is fun but could have been so much better and so much more. Make it easier to make more bitters after the initial recipe. Make receptacles large enough to hold the full amount of bitters being made or provide enough receptacles to do the job. They're on to something here, but they haven't quite gotten it.

We would have been fine with dealing with what we bought
My boyfriend got this because he is a huge fan of bitters and cocktails. In the end he ended up paying over $90 plus dollars for this kit with shipping. From the looks it seems as the price has gone down. The box came and seemed a little beat up, almost as though it had been sitting in someones apartment for awhile. We opened the kit and almost instantly felt ripped off. The packaging had not held up and the bottles included were strewn about. Basically for almost $100 we got 4 dropper bottles, 2 mason jars, a strainer, funnel and 2 small containers of the bitter spices that had been falling around in a box for awhile. We would have been fine with dealing with what we bought, the spices are nice, however a trip to their website made us realize that the same items are included in a smaller box for $65.00. I understand that they are a kickstarter campaign and commend the effort, but if you are going to emphasize packaging at least make it worth the price and also be aware of the different products/markets in which you are selling.
