Beautifully Done but Overlooked Indie Gem!
I bought this for the Nintendo Switch but unfortunately, there's no physical release for that system yet. In fact, I got this for the Nintendo Switch during a massive sale on their eShop on a complete and utter whim having never heard of it before.I've looked into this game after having played it however, and know that it doesn't matter which system this game is on in this case (they all play just fine) and, I just had to review Bastion in the hopes that this piece of indie brilliance gets a little more of the attention it deserves. Sometimes, you just encounter a game or a movie that's really good but everyone seems to be overlooking and, just like the rest of the human race, yeah, that aggravates me a little. So, yeah, when I saw this game for the PS while I was looking for something new and saw just one review for the thing, I just HAD to pause for a second and add my own. I have never heard of these guys before but, dear lord, after playing this game, I really, really, REALLY want them to make more like it!So, to the game itself!Bastion is an isometric view game with Diablo-esque game play but that is the only similarity that this game has to that venerated title. The obvious hook/gag in this game is that the Narrator is adaptive- meaning that he incorporates what you do as you are doing it into his narration. Unlike most hooks/gags though, the Narrator is used in a way that actually makes sense as he's part of the story that this game tells and-- yes, this game does indeed tell a story and-- yes, that story is a really good one.Unlike almost every other indie game I have ever played that has voice acting- the VA for the Narrator gives a BEAUTIFUL performance. The music, also often overlooked, is also GORGEOUS making me wonder many times-- how the heck could this tiny company afford such talented people for this?Needless to say that while the game play itself may not be the absolutest most greatest of game play I've ever encountered, I also never found anything wrong or aggravating with it either making it nicely solid but not exactly a standout. It's FUN, don't get me wrong but, it's not massively addictive either.Which is fine! Because the developers blend the three elements of the Narrator, the Plot and that gorgeous Music all together in all the right ways in order to make this game rise far above most indies I've played in a very, very long time. Point is that this game isn't trying to blow you away the the most awesome of awesomest game play anyway-- in fact, it does exactly what it sets out to do: give some solidly fun game play for you to enjoy while it tells you a really good story. And, I'll admit that more than most movies, the story of Bastion moved me several times by the end. So, for that alone, I would recommend this game.Because it's an indie title, Bastion IS a little on the short side but, otoh, I'm really not that sure that the story would have been served by padding out the length anyway. And, as it stands, the Narrator will pull you in right from the beginning, the plot reveals itself at a steady clip that will keep you coming back to find out what happens next and the music will stay with you long after the last of the credits roll. So, yes. Brilliantly done independent game that really, really, REALLY deserves FAR more attention than it's received so far-- hence my need to write this review even though I got this game for a completely different system. I really do wish more folks will pick it up, settle in some weekend with some popcorn, turn up the volume and give the game of Bastion a try.Supergiant has officially hit my list of gaming companies to keep an eye out for and I really hope they "make it" as a gaming company because if Bastion is what they can do with a limited budget, I would honestly LOVE to see what they would do with a AAA title.

Amazing game, one of my favorite bird's eye view games. An instant classic.
This is an all time classic game. Probably one of my favorite games by Supergiant games. The narration, controls, and story are very immersive. You can really relate to the character.
