Six Astrological Treatises by Masha'allah

Great book, I found what I needed.

I got this book because I have Holden's translations of Morinus and they are generally excellent. Unfortunately, his translations of Masha'allah are far inferior. The first text ON RECEPTIONS is not especially intelligible in Holden's translation. He appears not to been able to put into English the ideas that Masha'allah was trying to convey. His English is often confusing and and leave the reader at a loss for the meaning of the passage. Holden does better with those texts of Masha'allah that are more descriptive and less conceptual. If you are looking for conceptual understanding, I would avoid this translation and instead look to the works of Hand or Dykes, who have also translated texts by Masha'allah.

マシャアラーMasha'allah（730〜815）に拠る著書の、12世紀ラテン語訳テキストからの英訳、byジェームス・ハーシェル・ホールデンJamesHerschhel Holden,M.A.（2009年刊）。 タイトル「6つの占星術論文」は即ち、ホラリーの質問でのリセプションRece-ptionにかんするものからネイティヴィティNativity、"Thoughtsand Intentions"迄。 アラビア占星術の土台である、ペルシャ占星術が、ギリシャ占星術とはその体系に於いて異なる事を本書は裏付けている、との識者に拠る指摘が、そもそも存在するのであるが、たとえば本書3割を占めるリセプションでの、月がサインの終わり近くにあり、ヴォイド・オヴ・コースVoid of Courseを辿る場合の解釈等、現代占星術はむろんの事、リリーW.Lilly等17世紀占星術からの観点でみても、えっ?となるであろう、その手法に於ける特異さが多く存在する事から鑑みても、レヴュアーも判らぬなりにそれに対し、納得せざるをえない。 読者向け配慮に基づき描かれた、古典でおなじみの四角形でなく、円形のチャートに基づき解説はなされているのであるが、それらを以て解説文内容を確認した処で、結局上述「特異さ」の存在を一つひとつ確認するばかりなのであった。 尚、21世紀版『占星術百科』である、ジェームズ・R・ルイスJ.R.Lewis"The Astrology Book"中マシャアラーの項は、碩学ロバート・ゾラーR.Zollerが執筆担当なさっている。
